听力原文: A few months ago, [32]a team of interviewers were sent to schools to find out why children are prejudiced against science. Their answer provided this surprising picture of a typical scientist: they thought [33]a scientist is a rather dull person who spends all day working in a laboratory, wearing a white coat and making things that smell bad. They thought that scientists usually aren't very interesting and don't talk about anything but science. They don't play games well and they aren't attractive to the opposite sex. They also did not realize that women are as capable of becoming scientists as men.

On the other hand, [34]an art graduate is seen as a much livelier person. Arts graduates are thought to have a better sense of humor, to be interested in sports and pop music and to be considered attractive. When you understand these misconceptions which children have, it is only logical that most of them want to study arts rather than science.

(33)

A.Scientists.

B.Art graduates.

C.Children.

D.Women.

听力原文: A couple of months ago, I went to a department store to buy a few things for the house. I needed a set of curtains for the living room, two table lamps, a rug and several cushions. I asked them to deliver the things as soon as possible, but they said they were unable to send them out until 20 days later. After about 3 weeks, I received only the curtains and table lamps. I was a little disappointed when I didn't receive all the items I had bought. But nevertheless, I was eager to see what the curtains and lamps looked like. I first opened the package with the curtains. I had bought a lovely light blue, and instead they had sent me a horrible dark purple. Well, you can just imagine how angry I was. Then I opened the boxes with the lamps. They were exactly what I'd ordered. But one of the lampshades was damaged. The next I did was to telephone them to complain. They promised to come and pick them up immediately and also to replace them with the correct order. It has been two weeks since my complaint. They have neither picked up the wrong items nor sent me the rest of my order.

(26)

A.In about 20 years.

B.Within a week.

C.In a couple of weeks.

D.As early as possible.

听力原文: A few months ago, millions of people in London heard alarms all over the town. Emergency services, the Fire Department, the Police, hospitals. And ambulances stood by, ready to go into action. In railway and underground stations, people read notices and maps, which told them where to go and what to do in an emergency. This was Exercise Flood Call, to prepare people for a flood emergency. London wasn't flooded yet, but it is possible that it would be. In 1236 and in 1663, London was badly flooded. In 1928, people living in Westminster, the heart of London, drowned in floods. And in 1953, one hundred people, living on the eastern edge of the London suburbs were killed again in floods. At last, Greater London Council took action to prevent this disaster from happening again. Though a flood wall was built in the 1980s, Londoners still must be prepared for the possible disaster. If it happens, 50 underground stations will be under water. Electricity, gas and phone services will be out of action. Roads will be submerged. It will be impossible to cross any of the bridges between North and South London. Imagine: London will look like the famous Italian city, Venice. But this Exercise Flood Call didn't cause panic among Londoners. Most people knew it was just a warning. One lady said, "It's a flood warning, isn't it? The water doesn't look nigh to me."

(31)

A.The heart of London was flooded.

B.An emergency exercise was conducted.

C.100 people in the suburbs were submerged.

D.One of the bridges between North and South London collapsed.

听力原文:M: What's Neil going to do when he leaves school?

W: Until a few months ago he was going to go to university, but he's changed his mind. Now he reckons he's going to make it in the pop world.

M: And how do you parents feel about that?

W: We think he's making an enormous mistake.

M: But surely he can go back to his studies if his music career fails.

W: That's true, but once he gets a taste of freedom, he'll find it more difficult to go back to college. I just think it's such a waste m in three years' time, he'll have got his degree and he'll still be young enough to try out the music business. At least if it doesn't work out he'll have a qualification behind him.

M: Have you discussed this with him?

W: Of course, but he's made up his mind. We're just hoping that he'll get out of his system and then come to his sense and go back to his studies. When I left school I didn't go on to university, and I've regretted it ever since. I just don't want him to make the same mistake as I did.

M: Will you support him while he's trying to be a pop singer?

W: You mean financially? No. He won't be living at home, and we can't afford to pay for him to live in London, so it's up to him to make it work.

(20)

A.Go to university.

B.Go t6 a music school.

C.Start his music career as a pop singer.

D.Start a business in the music world.

听力原文:W: Well George, you can approach my desk now. (19) I have done an appraisal of your application to be my apprentice, and I have a few questions for you. (20) (21) You don't seem to have any apparent experience in working with large aquatic appliances. You do know that the aquariums I clean and make are not for goldfish or restaurant shelves, right?

M: What else can be put in them?

W: They put sharks, whales, and seals in them. Well, I applaud your effort and appreciate your coming across town for this interview, (20) but you don't have the experience or aptitude that is usually required for this type of apprenticeship.

M: I am very appreciative of your assessment of my qualifications, Madam. But I'd like to appeal, to you to give me a chance. (19) I know I know nothing about aquariums. I come from the desert and that's why I came to California to work with water. (19) And I know you will approve of determination. I have that and hope you could give me a try.

W: Okay George, (22) I'll take a risk and give it a try. But you are up for three-month probation. We' 11 take a look at how you're doing in these three months and make the final decision.

M: Thank you, Madam! You won't be disappointed!

(23)

A.How to keep fish.

B.How to make large aquatic appliances.

C.If the man is qualified to be the apprentice.

D.If the man is a good apprentice.
