听力原文: The world's population continues to grow. There now are about 4 billion of us on earth. The number could roach 6 billion by the end of the century and 11 billion in another 75 years. Experts have long been concerned about such a growth. Where will we find the food, water, jobs, houses, schools and health care for all these people? A major new study shows that the situation may be changing. A large and rapid drop in the World's birth rate has taken place during the past 10 years. Families generally are smaller now than they were a few years ago. It is happening in both developing and industrial nations. Researchers said they found a number of reasons for this. More men and women are waiting longer to get married and are using, birth control devices and methods to prevent or delay pregnancy. More women are going to school or working at jobs away from home instead of having children. And more governments, especially in developing nations, now support family planning programs to reduce population growth. China is one of the nations that has made great progress in reducing its population growth.

China has already cut its rate of population growth by about one half since 1970. Each Chinese family is now urged to have no more than one child. The hope is to reach a zero population growth with the total number of births equaling the total number of deaths, by the year

(33)

B.An economic policy of a family.

C.TV programs designed for a family.

听力原文: Good evening. You are listening to Pop World of BCD International. I'm Susan Welch. Today, we are going to hear several current hits of the world's most popular artists.

Well, first, I would like to say a few words to my dear listeners who are not very familiar with this program.

Since many people want to listen to and understand pop songs, radio producers at BCD International have made hundreds of programs over the years. We not only have access to the stars of the music world, but we also have a vast library of golden oldie" classics, as well as the "latest releases".

For those of you who like a bit of background with your favorite music--there's The History of Pop or The Road to Music. These two series bring you the language of pop music and information about the periods and the artists.

If you want to hear from the artists themselves, there's a new series called About the Big Hits. This is based on interviews with popular singers and songwriters. They talk to us about the meaning and ideas behind their songs.

If you want to understand the words to the big music hits, Pop Words is the program for you. After all, it's hard enough for native English speakers to understand most pop songs, so if English isn't your first language, you shouldn't be surprised if the words to many songs leave you in the dark. It was to address exactly this problem that BCD International started broadcasting Pop Words just over 23 years ago.

(30)

A.Interviews with radio producers

B.A variety of classic and pop songs

C.Latest news of the music library

D.Stories about the good old days

听力原文: The podcast revolution is erupting all over the world—and seemingly all at once. (29) Why is it getting so popular? The technology is simple to master and podcasting software is inexpensive, sometimes even free. Two Chinese students are receiving international fame as millions of people around the world watch them podcast from their dormitory. They are called the Back Dormitory Boys, and they specialize in mouthing Backstreet Boys' songs. Although most people in China don't have iPods, podcasting is sweeping the country. (30) The Back Dormitory Boys are among the thousands of Chinese who are putting their own homemade audio and video up on the Internet for all to enjoy. "You just gotta love two guys making a fool of themselves, and gaining international attention," said "Good Morning America" technology expert Becky Worley. The Internet is becoming more and more popular with China's youth; (31) about 60 percent of the 100 million Chinese who use the Internet are under the age of 24. "This generation grew up with values that are very, very similar to their peers in the United States," said Huang Hung, publisher of Time Out Beijing. "You're going to see a complete change in the cultural landscape of China." Already, podcasting has taken off in the United States. Earlier this year, 19-year-old Gary Brolsma skyrocketed to Internet fame with what he calls his "Numa Numa" dance—a lip sync to a Romanian pop song.

29. Why is podcasting sweeping the world?

30.What does podcasting mean according to the speaker?

31.Why does the speaker hold that the Internet is very popular among young people in China?

(4)

A.Because it is related with pop songs.

B.Because it is both simple and inexpensive.

C.Because you don't need a master to teach you.

D.Because it is initiated by two Chinese students.

听力原文: The entertainment profession, or" show business", attracts many young people. Unfortunately, only very few can hope to become famous and prosperous. (32) Talent is not enough, because show business is as competitive as any other business. (32) (33) Without a good manager, a performer can never hope to succeed. This is true for actors, dancers and comedians, but perhaps most of all for singers.

"Pop" stands for" popular", and (32) (34) a pop singer has to work very hard to become popular. He must either give the public what they already want, or he must find a new way of singing that will attract their attention. (34) Even when he has succeeded and his records are sold everywhere, he cannot relax.

The life of a successful pop singer is not at all easy. He can only relax when he is alone, (35) because everything he does is watched and reported in the special newspaper written for the" fans". The fans are the most important people in the world for a singer. They buy his records, they go to his concert, and make him rich and famous. But they can be very annoying, too. Sometimes their enthusiasm gets so hysterical that they do anything to get a" souvenir". They steal handkerchiefs, they tear off buttons, and they even cut off pieces of the unfortunate singer's hair. Many singers have been forced to hide. A pop singer has to spend a lot of money on clothes, because he must always look smart, or, at any rate, different. He must have a luxurious car. And-most important-he must always keep smiling for the benefit of his public.

(33)

A.Diligence and luck.

B.A good manager and luck.

C.Diligence and money.

D.A good manager and diligence.

听力原文: The first reality TV show in the world was called Expedition Robinson and it was shown in Sweden in 1997. Half the population of the country watched the final event and a new kind of TV program was born. Two years later in Holland, the first series of Big Brother was filmed. Again, it was a great success and the final program was watched by 15 million people. Now more than 20 countries around the world have Big Brother or Expedition Robinson on their TV screens. The ordinary people who take part in the programs are known by millions of people in their own countries and reality TV has become big, big business.

For the TV producers, reality TV is a dream which come true because many of the programs cost nothing to make. At some point, the television viewers are asked to telephone the program to vote or to apply to take part in the show. It is the cost of these telephone calls that pays for the shows. One of the most popular shows is Pop Idol. In the show a group of attractive young people are made into pop stars. TV viewers vote for their favorite person on the show. The winner makes a record and millions of copies of the record are sold. His or her pictures are published on the covers of magazines or on the front pages of newspapers, and then, they are quickly forgotten.

But not everyone is happy about reality TV. In Portugal, two TV channels got into trouble because they showed too much of the personal lives of the people in the shows. In France, reality TV is called "rubbish TV" and the TV studios of Big Brother were attacked three times in one week. In Greece, Big Brother was described as "against human rights and civilization".

(30)

A.Common people.

B.Pop TV stars.

C.Attractive people.

D.Famous film stars.
