听力原文:I had spent my last day in London visiting friends, taking pictures, and doing so

听力原文: I had spent my last day in London visiting friends, taking pictures, and doing some last minute shopping. Among other things, I had bought some presents: a shirt for my brother, a woolen blanket for my sister, and a battery-powered alarm clock for my father.

After traveling in a crowded bus and waiting in the noisy airport building, I was glad to be sitting in the plane at last.In a few minutes now we would be asked to fasten our seat belts, and then we would soon be up in the sky on our flight to Berlin.

But I had been mistaken. Ten minutes later, instead of enjoying the beauty of the evening sky high above the clouds, I was sitting in a smokefilled room with an airline official and a police officer at my side. On the table in front of me was one of my suitcases.

The officials were very polite. They asked me to show them my passport, my ticket, and my luggage check. Then I was requested to open the suitcase and to spread out its contents on the table.

I did as I was told. The moment I placed the alarm clock on the table, the two officials looked at each other and smiled.

Hearing the clock ticking away merrily, I suddenly understood. Someone must have heard the ticking noise coming from my suitcase and thought there was a time bomb hidden in it.

听力原文:M: Where do you get your ideas from, Mrs. Rowling?

W: Where the idea for Harry Potter came from I really couldn't tell you. I was traveling on a train between Manchester and London and it just popped into my head. I spent four hours thinking about what Hogwarts would be like. By the time I got off at King's Cross many of the characters in the books had already been invented.

M: Are any of the characters in the books based on real people?

W: Tricky question! Hermione Granger is a little bit like I was at her age. Ron is little bit like my oldest friend and Professor Shape is a lot like one of my old teachers.

M: How long have you been writing?

W: Nearly all my life. I had written two novels before I had the idea for Harry, though I'd never tried to get them published.

M: Did you expect the Harry books to be this successful?

W: Never. I didn't expect lots of people to like them, in fact, I never really thought much apart from getting them published.

M: Any clues about the next book?

W: I don't want to give anything away, but I can tell you that the books are getting darker... Harry potter's going to have quite a bit to deal with as he gets older. Sorry if they get too frightening!

M: Thanks for your help.

W: You're welcome.

(20)

A.Remarking on the film of Harry Potter.

B.Interviewing a successful woman writer.

C.Talking about their traveling experience on a train.

听力原文:M: Hey! How was your trip?

W: Wonderful! I spent most of my time at the art museum. I especially like the new wing. I was amazed to hear the guide explain the problems they had in building it.

M: Right. I just read an article that went on and on about the cost. 90 million total I think.

W: Yeah. The guide mentioned that. You could see they spared no expense.

M: Hm. It looked really unusal, at least from what I saw in the picture.

W: It is. The basic design is two triangles. In fact there are triangles all over. The paving stones in the courtyard, the skylights and even a lot of the sculptures. One sculpture is mobile. It's in the courtyard and it's made of pieces of aluminum that moves slowly in the air. It's really impressive.

M: That was in the article too. It said that the original was steel and it weighted so much that it wasn't safe to hand.

W: Right. They did it over in aluminum so it wouldn't come crashing down on someone's head.

M: You know the article went into that in detail. There was even an interview with the sculptor.

W: I'd like to read that. Would you mind if I borrow the magazine sometime?

M: No. I wouldn't mind of I haven't thrown it ont yet.

(20)

A.She was impressed by it.

B.It was a waste of money.

C.She was amazed it had opened so soon.

D.She didn't like it as much as the other wings.

听力原文: When I was in the 7th grade, I volunteered about 30 to 40 hours a week during the summer at a local hospital in my town. Most of the time I spent there was with Mr. Gillespie. He never had any visitors, and nobody seemed to care about his condition. I spent many days there holding his hand and talking to him, helping with anything that needed to be done. He became a close friend of mine, even though he responded with only an occasional squeeze of my hand—Mr. Gillespie was in a deep unconscious state.

I left for a week on vacation with my parents, and when I came back, Mr. Gillespie was gone. I didn't have the nerve to ask any of the nurses where he was, for fear they might tell me he had died.

Several years later, when I was a junior in high school, I was at the gas station when I noticed a familiar face. When I realized who it was, my eyes filled with tears. He was alive! I got up the nerve to ask him whether his name was Mr. Gillespie, and whether he had been in a coma about five years ago. With an uncertain look on his face, he replied yes. I explained how I knew him, and that I had spent many hours talking to him in the hospital. His eyes welled up with tears, and he gave me the warmest hug I had ever received.

He began to tell me how, as he lay there unconscious, he could hear me talking to him and could feel me holding his hand the whole time. He thought it was an angel, not a person, who was there with him. Mr. Gillespie firmly believed that it was my voice and touch that had kept him alive. Then he told me about his life. We both cried for a while and exchanged a hug, said our good-byes and went our separate ways.

Although I haven't seen him since, he fills my heart with joy every day. I know that I made a difference between his life and his death. More importantly, he has made a tremendous difference in my life. I will never forget him and what he did for me: He made me an angel.

(35)

A.He gave her a camera.

B.He occasionally gave her hand a squeeze.

C.He gave her a warmest hug.

D.His eyes welled up with tears.

听力原文:W: Hi, Tom.

M: Kate, I haven't seen you for weeks. Where have you been?

W: In Florida.

M: What? Vacationing while the rest of us have been studying on the campus in the February cold?

W: Not exactly. I spent most of my time underwater.

M: I don't understand.

W: I was on a special field trip. I went with my marine biology class.

M: So you went scuba diving. What were you looking for, sunken treasure?

W: You might say so. The sea is full of treasures. All kinds of strange, fascinating organisms. Our class concentrated on studying plankton.

M: I thought they were too small to be seen.

W: That's a common misconception. The plankton covers a wide variety of freely floating plants and animals. From one-celled organisms to large ones, such as the common jelly fish.

M: Jelly-fish may be large enough to be seen. But they are transparent, aren't they?

W: Yes, most floating plants and animals have transparent tissues. It makes them practically invisible to their enemies.

M: But not invisible to your biology class, I hope.

W: By concentrating, I was able to see the outlines of lots of different plants and animals, In fact, our professor even took photo of some small oceanic snails.

M: How would the snails show up in the photo if they are transparent?

W: We painted them with a harmless green dye. Since particles of the dye stuck to the tissues, the snails appeared in a green outline in the photos.

M: That sounds like an interesting trip.

W: It really was.

M: But I think if I had been there, I'd much rather have spent my time just swimming and lying in the sun.

听力原文:M: Hey, Karen. Looks like you got some sun this weekend.

W: Yeah, I guess so. I spent the weekend at the beach.

M: Oh yeah? That's great! Where did you stay?

W: Some friends of my parents live out there and they invited me for as long as I wanted to stay.

M: So what are you doing back here already?

W: Oh, I have a paper I need to work on, and I just couldn't do any serious studying at the beach.

M: I don't blame you. So what did you do out there... I mean besides lie out in the sun, obviously?

W: I jogged up and down the beach and I played some volleyball. You know, I never realized how hard it is to run on sand. I couldn't even get through a whole game before I had to sit down. It's much easier to run in the wet sand near the water.

M: Not to mention cooler. Did you go swimming?

W: I wanted to, but they said the water isn't warm enough for that until a couple of months from now, so I just waded in up to my knees.

M: It all sounds so relaxing. I wish I could get away to the beach like that.
