听力原文: People always seem to be looking for ways to get rich quickly. So when gold was discovered in California in the mid 1800's, hundreds and hundreds of people rushed in, hoping to get a part of the wealth. Today, gold in California continues to have as much of an appeal as it did over one hundred years ago. Modem prospectors in the form. of mining corporations have headed back to the same area to use new techniques for locating the gold that old time prospectors left behind. These modern prospectors, however, do not have some of the problems the old timers had. Anxious to seek a fast fortune, many of those early prospectors arrived before law and order were established. And they took full advantage of this situation by cheating and robbing each other. But not every one looking for gold in those days was greedy. Some people were generous and helpful. One such person was William Waldo. He established a relief committee that collected money and supplies to help save the lives of countless people who were caught in the mountains by early snowstorms before they even reached California.

(26)

A.Better land.

B.Quick wealth.

C.Modem equipment.

D.Stricter laws.

听力原文: Science fiction is one of the most popular books today. Hundreds of titles are published every year and are read by all kinds of people. Furthermore, some of the most successful films of recent years have been based on science fiction stories. Science fiction is not a fairly new development in literature, its ancestors can be found in books written hundreds of years ago. Modern science fiction writers don't write about men from Mars or space adventure stories. They are more interested in predicting the results of technical developments on science and the human mind; or in imagining future worlds which are a reflection of the world which we live in now. Because of this their writing has obvious political undertones. In an age where science fact frequently overtakes science fiction, the writer may find it difficult to keep ahead of scientific advances.

(33)

A.Science fiction is not a fairly new in literature.

B.Science fiction is very popular with people today.

C.Science fiction only deals with terrible ideas.

D.Many successful films are based on science fiction stories.

Rain is forecast to continue for at least another day in Seward. Meanwhile, north of Anchorage, two bridges have been washed away, and the Alaska Railroad, a major form. of transportation between Anchorage and Fairbanks has been cut off, making it very difficult for residents in interior Alaska to get to five. 听力原文: The word "okay" is known and used by millions of people all over the world. Still, language experts do not agree on where it came from. Some say it came from Indian people. When Europeans first came to America, they heard hundreds of different Indian languages. Many were well developed. One tribe especially had a well developed language. They were farmers and fishermen who lived in the rich Mississippi valley in what is now the state of Alabama. When problems arose, the headers of this tribe discussed them with the tribal chief. They sat in a circle and listened to the wisdom of the chief. He heard the different proposals often raising and lowering his head in agreement, and saying, "okeh," meaning, "all is so". The Internet can play . an important role in preparing marketing people for the intern
ational marketplace. While it cannot replace real-life interaction as an experiential tool, it does provide a number of benefits including comparisons between cultural ways of behaving and can provide an opportunity to develop the skills needed to interact successfully

with people from other cultures.

Companies typically rely on the following elements in designing web-based training:

1. Detailed Scenarios. Much of the training materials consists of a detailed, realistic story that is tied into elements of the learner's background; i.e., the session becomes more than a briefing; it becomes a narrated experience full of learning moments for participants. This is made possible by the ability of the web to store and circulate a lot of information instantaneously around the world.

2. Gradual Delivery. The ability to control the flow of information to the participant supports the learning process in a number of ways. Firstly, the participant is allowed to fit the training into his/her schedule. Secondly, the real-life flow of information is mimicked (模仿) and a higher degree of realism is achieved.

3. Support. A set of detailed materials is provided to the participants 24 hours a day. At any hour and at any location, participants can check their perceptions against the materials, reinforce learning from a dimly recalled lesson, or seek feedback on an important point or issue.

4. Relevant Exercises. Participants can be provided with topical exercises and activities the level of which can be adjusted depending upon how the participant has invested in the training.

5. Online Discussions. Sessions can be simulcast (同时播放) to hundreds of participants around the world. The lack of face-to-face interaction can be remedied by having discussing groups where participants can share their experiences with each other. The pooled (共享的) learning experience is stronger than one with a solitary (单个的) participant.

听力原文: Movies are the most popular form. of entertainment for millions of Americans. They go to the movies to escape their normal everyday existence and to experience a life more exciting than their own. They may choose to see a particular film because they like the actors or because they've heard the film has a good story. But the main reason why people go to the movies is to escape. Sitting in a dark theatre, watching the images on the screen, they enter another world that is very real to them. They become involved in the lives of the characters in the movie, and for two hours, they forget all about their own problems. They are in a dream world where things often appear to he more romantic and beautiful than in real life. The biggest "dream factories" are in Hollywood, the capital of the film industry. Each year, Hollywood studios make hundreds of movies that are shown all over the world.

American movies are popular because they tell interesting stories and they are well-made. They provide the public with heroes who do things the average person would like to do but often can't. People have to cope with many problems and frustrations in real life, so they feel encouraged when they see the "good guys" win in the movies.

(20)

A.To enjoy a good story.

B.To see the actors and actresses.

C.To experience an exciting life.

D.To escape their everyday life.

听力原文:W: Good morning.

M: Good morning.

W: Well, what are your predictions about the world? What is it going to be like in the year 2020?

M: Hum, if present trends continue, I'm afraid the world in 2020 will be more crowded and more polluted than the world we live in now.

W: Don't you think we will be able to cope with the increase in world population?

M: I don't think so. Even though production is constantly increasing, the people of the world will be poorer than they are today. For hundreds of millions of the desperately poor, the supply of toad and other necessities of life will not be any better. And for many they will be worse, unless the nations of the world do something to change the current trends.

W: What is your estimate of world population in year 2020?

M: If present trends continue, that is with the number of births by far could approach 6,500million people.

W: How many people are born every day?

M: About 250 every minute, but only 100 people die!

W: That's worrying! Will there be enough oil to satisfy our needs in the year 20207

M. During the 2000s, world oil production will reach the maximum and the price of oil will begin to increase. At the next ten years of the century, the available supplies will not be sufficient for our needs. So , at least part of these needs will have to be met by alternative sources of energy.

W: Well, that's a warning that we all need to take seriously. And with that warning, we end part one of this week's.

(23)

A.Increase food production.

B.Increase oil production.

C.Birth control.

D.All of above.
