听力原文:M: Hi, Laura. Where are you heading?

W: Hi, Peter. Put off to the gym. I've got to stay in shape, you know.

M: What's the main reason you work out? For your health, or to look good?

W: To be honest, for both. With women, good looks are always a very important consideration.

M: If you were honest, most men who work out would admit that they also do it to look better, and nut merely for health reasons.

W: Do you get any regular exercise?

M: I do a lot of walking, for exercise and enjoyment—sometimes ten to twenty kilometers at a time—but I never go to the gym like you do.

W: Well, walking is good exercise. How about sports?

M: Not since my school days. I used to love playing baseball, but it's impossible to get enough people together for a game now. Mostly I just watch sports on TV.

W: I play tennis fairly regularly with my friends, and sometimes go swimming and cycling by myself.

M: Oh, I forgot about that. I go cycling sometimes too. And I often go swimming on vacation, but only recreational swimming.

W: Why don't you join me at the gym sometime? I can get you a guest pass.

M: Well, maybe someday, but I'm pretty lazy about things like that.

听力原文:M: (19)I have been studying too much and I really need a change. So I am just making plans to go away during January break. I grant to enjoy myself.

W: Really? You do deserve a great holiday. You did a great job. Where are you going?

M: I'm planning to visit New Mexico. How about it?

W: (20)My sister and I had the vacation there last year and we had a great time.

M: Did you get into Albuquerque?

W: Sure. We were skating all the time. I really love skating.

M: Is it far from the mountains?

W: Not at all. Even though Albuquerque is on the high plateaus, there are even high mountains near it. Just half an hour away from the city there is a snow-covered slope.

M: Well. As the mountains are just thirty minutes away, (21) I guess I should take my ice skate and my skis.

W: Definitely. You'll need them.

M: I heard that the weather there is great.

W: It is. No humidity, moderate temperatures, but you do need to be careful about high altitude.

M: High altitude... What should I do about that?

W: Oh, just take it easy for a few days. Don't go hiking up to the mountains or exercise too vigorously. Just do everything gradually. You'll get used to it soon.

M: I'm sure I will be fine. And I will let you know all about my trip when I come back.

(20)

听力原文:M: You like living in the city, don't you?

W: Oh, I love it. It's so convenient, I can take the bus to work, or the subway, or the taxi. And there is so much to do.

M: I know what you mean. I'd like to live in the city, too, but to live in the suburbs is better for children.

W: Well, there are a lot of good things about suburban living. But, as a working woman, I think a city has all the conveniences—including the best food and fastest news.

M: But there are more trees, grass and fresh air in the suburbs.

W: Yeah, but living in a city, it's convenient to go everywhere. There are lots of movie houses, theaters and so on. You can take them to the suburbs on the weekends.

W: You are right. They are at the library in Brooklyn. And they come back home for lunch, then go uptown to the Museum of Natural History. There is so much for young people to see and do.

听力原文:M: So you're going to be writing for the school newspaper?

W: Yes, I'm excited about it. I'm thinking about journalism as a career.

M: Oh! Congratulations! How do they decide whom to hire?

W: I have to send the writing sample. I used one of the essays I've written for the literature class, then the editor assigned me a topic to write a short article about it.

M: What did you write about?

W: Actually, it was a lot of fun. I wrote about the students' play that has been performing this month.

M: Oh, I saw that play. The director is a friend of mine. It really caused a stir around here.

W: Yeah, I know. That's what I wrote about—People's reaction to it. It's really interesting.

M: Have you finished the article? Can I read it?

W: Sure. I just made a couple of copies. So you can have one.

M: Thanks. I wish I were a better writer. Working for the paper sounds like lots of fun.

W: Well, they're looking to add one or two photographers to the staff.

M: You're kidding! Maybe I'll go over and apply.

W: If you want, we could walk over to the newspaper office and I'll introduce you to the photography editor and some of the other photographers.

M: That will be terrific! But can we go tomorrow? I have to go to math class now. And if we go tomorrow, then I'll have time tonight to gather a portfolio of photographs to show them.

M: sure. Or maybe you should call and set up a time to meet tomorrow.

M: Good idea. I'll do that before I go to class.

W: All right. See you tomorrow.

听力原文:M: My brother Mike has just done a course at the Green Park Camping School.

W: Really! What made him decide to do that?

M: Well, for one thing, some boys in his class decided to do it and they dared him to go with them!

W: You mean he didn't really want to go?

M: I think he wanted to go but I think he was also a little frightened. Of course, now that he's done it, he's very pleased with himself and he's always talking about it.

W: So he enjoyed it, didn't he?

M: Not exactly. I think he's enjoying the feeling of having done it more than he enjoyed actually doing it!

W: What sort of things did he do?

M: Oh, all sorts of open-air activities: hiking, camping, canoeing. One thing he had to do was to capsize a canoe and then right it again without getting out. He said the water was very cold but that he hardly noticed it at the time.

W: Why not?

M: He was too busy righting the canoe!

W: That doesn't sound very comfortable at this time of the year.

M: That's what I said when he told me. On another occasion he had to spend a day and a night by himself in the open country.

W: Was he frightened?

M: He was at first, apparently, but then he got used to it.

W: It seems to me that the course did him a lot of good. I expect it's made him more self-reliant.

M: That's what he says—and now he wants me to go!

(20)

A.He was eager to do the course.

B.He had done a lot of outdoor exercise.

C.He enjoyed adventurous activities.

D.He was timid and reluctant to go to the course.
