听力原文:The results of the municipal elections in Italy in which the governing coalition

听力原文: The results of the municipal elections in Italy in which the governing coalition lost ground to parties on the left and right attracted considerable attention in today's British newspapers. It's the lead story for the Financial Times, which focuses on the sharp falls on the Milan stock exchange and says the nervousness in the financial markets reflected the view that fresh general elections would be held early next year amid increased political uncertainty.

The Scotsman says file results reflect the bewilderment of a people who are watching file abrupt disintegration of the country's post-war political and economic fabric. The Yorkshire Post says the results raise the perennial question of whether Italy is governable. And The Independent adds that there's little prospect of a convincing new party of the moderate centre right emerging in time for the elections to fill the political vacuum left by the discredited Christian democrats and socialists.

(33)

A.It won the elections easily.

B.It lost the elections completely.

C.It attracted considerable attention in newspapers.

D.It didn't cause the falls on the stock exchange.

听力原文: Science fiction is one of the most popular books today. Hundreds of titles are published every year and are read by all kinds of people. Furthermore, some of the most successful films of recent years have been based on science fiction stories. Science fiction is not a fairly new development in literature, its ancestors can be found in books written hundreds of years ago. Modern science fiction writers don't write about men from Mars or space adventure stories. They are more interested in predicting the results of technical developments on science and the human mind; or in imagining future worlds which are a reflection of the world which we live in now. Because of this their writing has obvious political undertones. In an age where science fact frequently overtakes science fiction, the writer may find it difficult to keep ahead of scientific advances.

(33)

A.Science fiction is not a fairly new in literature.

B.Science fiction is very popular with people today.

C.Science fiction only deals with terrible ideas.

D.Many successful films are based on science fiction stories.

听力原文:Trees have a spectacular survival record. Over a period of more than 400 million

听力原文: Trees have a spectacular survival record. Over a period of more than 400 million years, they have evolved as the tallest, most massive and longest-lived organisms ever to inhabit the Earth. Yet trees lack a means of defense that almost every animal has: threes cannot move away from destructive forces. Because they cannot move, all types of living and nonliving enemies—fire, storm, micro-organisms, insects, other animals and later, humans—have wounded them throughout their history. Trees have survived because their evolution has made them into a highly compartmented organism; that is, they wall off injured and infected wood.

In that respect trees are radically different from animals. Fundamentally, animals heal: they preserve their life by making billions of repairs, installing new cells in the positions of old one. Trees cannot heal: they make no repairs, instead, they defend themselves from the consequences of injury and infection by walling off the damage. At the same time they put new cells in new positions; in effect they grow a new tree over the old one every year. The most obvious results of the process are growth rings, which are visible on the cross section of a trunk, a root, or a branch.

(30)

A.Tall.

B.Green.

C.Massive.

D.Long-lived.
