听力原文:W: Oh, Ken, I have been meaning to talk to you.

M: Hi, Denise! What's up?

W: I have this great job lined up to manage a clothing store at the mall.

M: Oh, say in detail, please.

W: Well, one of the professors in my department just told me about a summer practice program that is available. She thinks I might be able to practice in the office at the Wayfarer Hotel here in town.

M: That sounds like a great opportunity, too. Why not take advantage of it?

W: I'd love to, especially since I'm studying hotel management. It would be a great way to get some practical experience in my field.

M: And you never know, it might lead to something with them after graduation. They're one of the biggest hotel chains in the area.

W: You're right. But the problem is that I wouldn't be making nearly as much money as I would be working in the clothing store. Not to mention the discount I'd get on clothes there.

M: How much money can you get from your practice work?

W: Very little money. But I can get a free room and board for the summer.

M: Well, if I were you, I'd take it anyway. You can always get a job during the school year next year to make a few extra bucks.

听力原文:M: Dialogue has so many possible applications. It can be useful in problem solvin
g, conflict resolution and more. Linda, (23) could you give us an idea of what dialogue is?

W: (23) Let's look first at the Greek roots which may be helpful in discovering the meaning of dialogue. Dis logos means "through meaning. "So dialogue is very much about creating meaning between us, which implies understanding.

M: How do you get started in your work with dialogue?

W: I've been an organizational consultant for about seven years. (24) I often find it easy to make short-term improvements in how a team operates, but six months later, much of the improvement disappears. People go back to old patterns of interaction. What draws me to dialogue was that it is used in an ongoing way.

M: Would you say that (25) this helps people communicate better?

W: Yes. (24) (25) Frequent dialoguing changes the attitudes we hold about one another. We come to respect individual differences more and deepen our trust in each other. Dialogue stimulates the surfacing of issues and helps to bring up things early before they become problems.

M: That's right. So what is the purpose of dialogue— simply to experience communication?

W: The purpose of dialogue is to create shared meaning.

M: Does everyone involved have to follow the rules to dialogue?

W: That's a good question. Personally, I know my experience with dialogue has changed how I interact with people. It's been quite useful. They can help make your questions able to elicit the responses that lead to understanding.

(24)

A.The man is not determined.

B.The man is poorly experienced in the aquatic field.

C.The man is not honest.

D.The man was late for the interview.

听力原文:M: British English and American English are really about the same, aren't they?

W: I don't think so. It seems to the that some of the spellings are different. Words like theater and center end in r-e in England instead of in e-r like we spell them. There are more, examples like the word color. In fact, many words which end in o-r in American English are spelled o - u - r in British English.

M: I'm still not convinced. I mean, if someone comes here from England, we can all understand what he's saying. The spelling, doesn't really matter that much.

W: Okay. Are we just talking about spelling? Arc there some differences in pronunciation and meaning too?

M: Well, in fact I remember seeing an English movie where the actors kept calling their apartment a flat. Half of the movie was over before I realized what they were talking about. So there are slight differences in spelling and some vocabulary.

W: And pronunciation, too. You aren't going to tell me that you sound like Richard Burton.

M: Richard Barton isn't English.

W: Okay. Anyway, the pronunciation is different. I think that what we are really disagreeing about is the extent of the difference. We all agree that British English and American English are different, right"

M:Sure.

(26)

A.The differences between British English and American English.

B.The similarities between British English and American English.

C.The spelling differences between British English and American English.

D.The pronunciation differences between British English and American English.

听力原文:W: Congratulations on your second album Love Is My Religion.

M: Thank you.

W: The message of love and friendship seems to be a running theme.

M: It was some stuff I was writing about that came together. I wasn't meaning to write about those themes.

W: So it wasn't a conscious decision to write about friendship and love?

M: No, no. I wanted to write an album that was more spiritual, more emotional.

W: Does that reflect where you were at the time you were writing the album?

M: We're trying to be. We're trying to get feeling of the alignment of the planets.

W: How long did it take you to record Love Is My Religion?

M: It took one year to record the album.

W: Was it shorter or longer than your previous efforts?

M: That's about the same.

W: Was it more difficult than your previous albums?

M: No, it's more spiritual. That's what it's all about. There was more opportunity to realize that we're not alone in our existence. There's a lot more happening when you're alone in an environment. You can actually perceive the things you wouldn't perceive if you were around a bunch of people.

W: So you prefer to work alone? So do I.

M: Some people don't work like that. They don't like to be alone.

W: I understand you played most, if not every, instrument on the album.

M: Not every. I played a lot. I had an engineer working with me, Ross, who played some instruments, too.

W: That must have been a lot of work.

M: It's not work. It's great fun. It's great enjoyment. It's experimentation and mystique that worked.

(20)

A.The man meant to write about the theme.

B.It was an eternal theme in the man's album.

C.It was about love between parents and children.

D.It was something that came naturally.

听力原文:W: Tom, do you have a minute?

M: Oh, hi, Cathy, sure. Anything?

W: Well, I've been meaning to talk to you about the situation in the office.

M: I'm not in that very often. It's so noisy that I can't work.

W: That's exactly what I'm getting at. We're supposed to be able to do our preparation and marking in that office. But have you noticed Jack constantly has students coming in to get help with his course. A lot of people are going in and out.

W: Has anybody spoken to him about it?

M: No, not yet. But someone's going to have to.

W: We can't really ask him to stop having students come in for help, can we?

M: No, of course not. But I'm not able to do my work and neither are you. I imagine it's the same for the others in the office.

W: Hum... Could we ask for a kind of meeting room? When teachers have to talk with the students, they could go to the meeting room and not use the office. You know, there's a room down the hall, a rather small room that we could ask to use. It's only for storing supplies.

M: You mean that little storage room? Oh, that would be too small.

W: Are you sure? With the cabinets taken out, it might be bigger than it looks.

M: Come to think of it? maybe it will be Ok. I'd like to have a look at that room.

W: Can we go there now?

M: Sure, let's go.

B.There is too much noise.

C.Office supplies are taking up space.

M: What are you doing here? Don't tell me you're sick.

W: Oh, no. I'm just here picking up a prescription for my roommate. He's caught a cold this past week.

M: Oh, that's too bad. I hope he feels better soon. I've been meaning to get a hold of you for some time now. My sister just returned from a three-week trip to Africa and she took lots of pictures. It's' so beautiful there, you must see the photos. How about coming over for dinner this weekend and taking a look? I'm sure she would be delighted to see you, too.

W: Oh, I'm terribly sorry. It's my parents' fiftieth anniversary this Saturday, so I'm going home for a big celebration. All my relatives are coming from all over the country for this event. I'm also excited about seeing my family again. I'll have to leave straight from work on Friday night because it takes about six hours to get to Sacramento from here.

M: Sacramento? I thought you were from San Diego.

W: No. Lots of people make that mistake, too. I just studied at the university there.

M: Well, please say congratulations to your parents for me. I hope you have a safe trip there. Traffic can be bad on Friday nights, so please be careful. Be sure to give me a call when you get back from Sacramento. We'd love to see you.

听力原文:M: How did you like our American History class yesterday?

W: Well I did enjoy it, but I didn't exactly buy everything Barnum said either.

M: You mean his view that the early framers of the constitution really didn't want democracy as we know it today?

W: Well "as we know it today" I can accept. But when he states that there was no affinity towards democracy as it was understood then well...to me this just sounds like historical revisionism.

M: Well, surely you have to admit that their concept of democracy was not "democratic".

After all, many groups including those without land, women, blacks and many others were shut out of participating in the new system.

W: Yes, but when we look at what we call democracy today there are still groups shut out of being able to vote in America, such as children and convicted people. Also, I think it is fair to say that many groups find it still very difficult to participate. So we don't have complete democracy even today.

M: Yes, but I think he is basing his arguments on the factual transcripts of the early Founding Fathers realizing that they didn't like to use the term "democracy" and some even heaped scorn on it.

W: Perhaps it was just that the term had a different meaning from the way it is used today.

M: But I think it is fair to say that democracy wasn't exactly in fashion. And perhaps it is worthwhile to draw a distinction between liberty and democracy, since the relationship between the two is somewhat blurry.

W: But if you are to say that America was not a democracy in the beginning then you might as well say, it is not One today either because the structures of federalism, 3 branch government and checks and balances are basically the same as it was over 200 years ago.

M: You have a point there, most of the constitution remains intact, and despite the fact that America is much closer to a true democracy than it was even 50 years ago, it's still a fair way from being ideal.

W: Right and if you apply the democracy to an ideal you will get nowhere. I wish Barnum was listening to us right now.

M: Well, here's your chance to challenge him right now. I see him coming our way.

W: Are you joking? I still need to get a decent mark in this course and I'm not doing it by making him angry.

(23)

A.She loved it.

B.She disagreed with too much of it to enjoy.

C.She thought it was just so so.

D.She liked the class but disagreed with the Professor.

M: Oh, hi, Cathy. Sure. What's up?

W: Well, I've been meaning to talk to you about the situation of the office.

M: I W: Oh, Jackie, I've had such a terrible day.

M: You look exhausted. What on earth have you been doing?

W: Oh, I've been such a fool! You just wouldn't believe what I've done.

M: I would, I would. Come on...Where's you been?

W: I'm dying to tell someone. I've been down to London, you see. OK, I thought I'd be very sensible, so I'd drive down to the Underground on the outskirts of London, leave the car and go in by tube. All right? Very sensible. Yes? OK. So I drove down to London and I parked ray car by the tube station and I got the tube into London: Fine! All right?

M: Well, sounds like it.

W: So far, so good. Right. I came back out of London and got out of the tube.

M: And you forgot the car?

W: No, no, I didn't forget the car. I couldn't find the ear, Jackie. It'd gone.

M: You're kidding.

W: No, no, really, it'd gone. I walked out...happily out of the tube, you know, over to where it was and I looked and it was a red Mini and mine's green, so I thought "Oh no". So having panicked a bit, I rang the police, you see, and this lovely, new little policeman...a young one came out to help. That's it, yes...buttons shining...big smile...came down to help, so I said, "I've lost my ear. It's been stolen." And I took him to see it and everything and...

M: You mean where it wasn't.

W: And sure enough, it wasn't there. And then he coughed a bit and he went very quiet.., and he took me back into the tube station and out the other side into the other car park, and there was my car, Jackie, parked in the other tube station car park, the other side of the station, because there are two exits, you see, so I walked out of an exit not knowing, there were two and it was in the other one.

M: Oh Lesley. And was he ever so cross?

W: He was livid, Jackie. He went on and on at me and I didn't know what to do. It was just frightful. I went red and just shut up and said "Sorry" all the time.

M: Jumped in your car and left.

W: Oh, it was awful. I'm never doing that again ever.
