听力原文:W: Oh, I wish that bus would come! My feet are freezing!

M: Have you been waiting long?

W: It feels like hours --but I suppose I' ye only been here ten minutes or so,

M: That' s long enough in this weather. This is awful. I hate winter.

W: So do I. And this morning the sun was shining and they were predicting light rein.

M: F ye been calling the weather report all day since it started to snow. They' re still predicting one or two inches but we’ve got at least three inches already. My shoes are full of snow.

W: Well, that' s typical. Remember last year when they predicted four inches of snow and we ended up with four feet?

M: I wasn't here last year, but we had the same thing in Detroit. We were supposed to get a little rain one night, but when we woke up, guess what? There was six inches of snow on the ground and it was still coming down hard. I didn't go to work that day.

W: Well, if it' s really that had, I won' t go in to the office tomorrow. I'11 work at home.

M: What kind of work do you do?

W: I' m an attorney. My office is around the comer.

M: Ah, that' s where I've seen you before, I work in the same building in that travel agency off the lobby.

W: Oh, of course.

M: And I've seen you walk by several times. Stop in and have a cup of coffee sometime.

W: I wish I had a cup of coffee right now.

M: Well, listen, we' re standing right in front of a coffee house. Why don' t I get some coffee and bring it out for us?

W: That sounds wonderful. Oh, look, there's the bus. Thanks anyway.

M: That's OK. Another time. Boy, am I glad to see that bus!

, Ms. Cook.

W: Thanks. Oh, by the way, I'd like to get some information from you. You see, the conference I'm attending will be over early Wednesday, and I don't fly out until Thursday. Do you have any recommendations for sightseeing?

M: There's a great planetarium at our natural history museum. You might enjoy that.

W. I don't know—I don't think I want to do that. The city I come from has a good planetarium.

M: There are also some good art galleries downtown.

W: I'm more interested in doing something outdoors.

M: Oh, well, there's a beautiful waterfall called Crystal Falls not far from here.

W: That sounds like something I'd enjoy seeing. How do I get there?

M: Do you have a car, or will you be taking a bus?

W: I rented a car at the airport.

M: Then just take Waterson Street west out of town and go about five miles. You'll see a sign that says Crystal Falls. It's a short walk from there.

W: That sounds great. Thanks!

听力原文: Good morning everyone. My name is Craig Stone, and I'll be your guide for today's tour of Kyoto. First, I want to go over the itinerary of the tour, so everyone can enjoy the trip without being worried about being left behind along the way. Of course, no one has gotten lost so far.

First of all, we'll be leaving at 9:i5 outside the main train station exit. Be sure to board the bus by 9:00 sharp.

We'll be visiting some of the most famous historical spots in Kyoto. Our first stop will be at the Golden Pavilion, a temple constructed in 1397. We'll be leaving there at 10:30. You'll have about forty-five minutes to stroll around the temple and its gardens.

Our next destination will be Ryoanji Temple. That's always a difficult one to pronounce. This temple is famous for its beautiful rock garden. We'll depart from the temple at 11:45.

Next, we'll have lunch from 12:00 to 12:45.

In the afternoon, we'll be making a brief stop at Heian Jingu Shrine, which was constructed in 1895 to commemorate the 1,100th anniversary of the founding of the city of Kyoto.

After that, we'll head downtown and stop in Gion. Many people asked me about different traditional shopping areas, and this is a place we don't want to miss. You'll have about an hour to look around, and I'm sure you'll enjoy the atmosphere of the entire area—the shops, the homes, and the restaurants. We'll be leaving Gion at 2:30.

Finally, we'll visit Nijojo Castle, which was the residence of the first Tokugawa Shogun. You'll have about an hour to tour the .castle. and we'll meet at the bus at 4:00.

第10题

Acting is such an over-crowded profession that the only advice that should be given to
a young person thinking of going on the stage is “Don’t!” But it is useless to discourage someone who feels that he must act, although the chances of his becoming famous are slim. The normal way to begin is to go to a drama school. Usually only students who show promise and talent are accepted, and the course lasts two years. Then the young actor or actress takes up work with a theatrical company, usually as assistant stage manager. This means doing everything that there is to do in the theatre and occasionally acting in very small parts. It is very hard work indeed, the hours are long and the salary is tiny.

Of course, some people have remarkable chances which lead to fame and success without this long and hard training. Connie Pratt, for example, was just an ordinary girl working in a bicycle factory. A film producer happened to catch sight of her one morning waiting at a bus stop, as he drove past in his car. He stopped and got out to speak to the girl. He asked if she would like to go to the film studio to do a test, and she thought he was joking. Then she got angry and said she would call the police. It took the producer twenty minutes to convince Connie that he was serious. The test was successful. And within a few weeks she was playing the leading part opposite one of the most famous actors of the day. But chances like this happen once in a blue moon!

1. From the very beginning, the author puts it clearly that acting is a profession().

A.sought after by too many

B.too difficult for young people

C.for slim people only

D.one can go into without special training

2.For someone who feels he must act, it is very likely that ().

A.he will become a film star at long last

B.he will become a stage manager

C.he will be well paid

D.he will end up without any success

3.The film producer found Connie when she was() .

A.at work in a bicycle factory

B.driving past him in her car

C.going to a film studio

D.waiting for a bus

4.A few weeks after the test, Connie Pratt found herself ()

A.the most famous actress of the world

B.playing the leading female role in a play

C.as famous as the greatest actor of the world

D.no less famous than the leading actor of the day

5.The concluding sentence “chances like this happen once in a blue moon” means() .

A.his is something which happens once in a while

B.this is a highly profitable chance

C.his is something highly possible

D.this is a very rare chance
