听力原文:M: Hi, I heard you're looking for a different apartment.

W: Yeah, the place I'm in now is a real down.

M: It was OK when I was there.

W: Oh, the boiler keeps breaking and when it does, we loose the heat for several days at the time.

M: Wily doesn't the owner replace it?

W: Well, she said it was cheaper to keep fixing it. She's a nice enough person, just the sort of mean. In any case, I' m sick of being cold.

M: Can you get your deposit back if you move?

W: If I give two-month notice, I can get the whole thing back.

M: So what kind of place are you looking for?

W: I think I'll try to get into one of those high-rises near the university. There's nothing really special but at least they are new and functional.

M: I heard of those buildings are pretty noisy. The walls are thin and you can hear everything that's going on in the other apartment.

W: Oh, that will never do. I need some place quiet to finish my thesis. I guess I'll have to look some more ads. But I still have some worries. You know, maybe new isn't necessarily better.

M: Why don't you try some of those apartments in Winsor? They're supposed to be nice.

W: Oh, aren't they awfully expensive?

M: Not really, you'll be surprised at how reasonable some of them are. The problem would be that the bus doesn't run that way.

W: That'll definitely be a problem. I can't afford a car right now. I guess I'd better check a few of the places here in the city before I make a decision.

听力原文:W: Hi, Scott, have you heard about Diana recently?

M: No, I haven't talked to her for a couple of months. How are things going with her?

W: Well, she is OK. She only had a little accident last week in her new car.

M: Oh, It’s too bad! Was anybody hurt? Was there much damage?

W: No, it was really a small accident and everybody was fine. It was the other driver's fault.

M: Well, that's good. By the way, is she still going out with David?

W: Haven't you heard yet? They're getting married!

M: You are kidding!

W: She said he gave her a ring on her birthday.

M: My! How romantic! When is the big day?

听力原文:W: Hi, John!

M: Hi, Beth!

W: Congratulations! I heard you've got a part-time job.

M: No. I wish I had. I'm still on the waiting list.

W: Seems like it's hard to get a good part-time job these days.

M: You bet. I've been searching online for days, but there's little chance...

W: Funny, isn't it? You're a Management major concentrating on Marketing. Now you've got to learn how to market yourself! Why not look in the local paper? There're often lots of jobs in it.

M: Are you kidding? The unemployment figures are up again this month!

W: Don't be so negative. Look at the jobs in the classifieds in today's paper...so many openings. Just print out your resume and send it to them.

M: I usually apply online. I send a short cover letter in the text of the email, and then attach my resume. It's convenient. What about you? Any luck?

W: Well, I haven't even started planning to look for a job yet. If only I had more time, I could do it.

M: Why so busy?

W: Well, I didn't get good grades last semester and failed two tests...

M: Sorry to hear that. I think no one deserves good grades more than you!

W: Thank. you. The main reason, I guess, was that I didn't get accustomed to the way of learning here. Well, where there's a will, there's a way. I wish you good luck on your job search.

听力原文:M: Hi, Sandy. How are your finals going?

W: Oh, hi, Michael. I finished my last exam this morning, and I finished two term papers. I finally feel like I can see the light.

M: Great. Now how about a change? I've got two tickets for the new modern art exhibit downtown. Do you want to go with me?

W: Oh, I don't know. I don't know anything about modern art, and I'm no artist.

M: You don't have to be an artist to enjoy a good art show! Besides, at least it's something different from studying.

W: You are right. Have you seen this exhibit yet?

M: No, but I've heard that it's great. The exhibit was in New York last summer and in Chicago after that. And next week it goes to Los Angeles.

W: Oh. Well, it ought to be good then.

M: And, besides, next door to the modern art museum is a new Asian art museum. So we could hit both of them if you're up for it.

W: OK, you've talked me into it. Did you want to go this afternoon?

M: Sounds good to me. See you then.

听力原文:W: Hi Chris, would you like to do something with me this weekend?

M: Sure. I happen to be free this weekend. What shall we do?

W: I don't know. Do you have any idea?

M: Why don't we see a film? There're some American blockbusters on.

W: Sounds good. Which film shall we see?

M: Let's see The First Blood. The plot is thrilling and the cast is strong.

W: I'd rather not. I don't like violent films. How about School Ties? I heard it's quite a funny film. It is about American high school life and racism.

M: Have you seen the film? You seem to know a lot about the film.

W: No, I searched for the information on the Internet.

M: OK. Let's go to see the film. When is it on?

W: It's at 8 o'clock at the Rex. We still have two and a half hours. Shall we have something to eat before the film?

M: Sure. What about going to that new Italian restaurant--Sunny Woods?

听力原文:M:Hi there. (19)Have you heard that the company is cutting staff? I just hope I wouldn't be that unlucky.

W:Ha, don't be afraid of that. To tell you, actually I just took voluntary redundancy four years ago.

M:I can't imagine that! But how do you go through it?

W:Oh, it is of course not a very happy experience to go through. But, as we may find out, sometimes it can be a blessing in disguise.

M:I do need some advice to turn it into a good thing.

W:(19)My advice would be to see it as an opportunity to create a new life. And if you reinvent your life, remember that you've got to reeducate yourself and that means investing in yourself. (20)And one of the best ways is to do a lowly paid or unpaid internship or to be an apprentice.

M:I thought you'd tell me to go and blow it on a cruise or a holiday.

W:That is not bad. But getting some experience will help you into a next kind of life.

M:Oh, then what was your plan ? You had anything different?

W:Well, you know, (21)I have received some compensation and I saw that an opportunity to get rid of some debts, so I paid off some bills. And the financial freedom then allowed me to develop some new skills, find out what I enjoy in life. things that I am good at.

M:Sounds sensible but how are things with you now?

W:(22)Basically I have now developed what they call a career portfolio. That means instead of being able to do just one job in life you are able to do more than one.

听力原文:W: Hi, Larry, are you waiting to see Professor Gilmore, too?

M: Yah, since I got one of the five highest grades in her class, she asked me if I'd be interested in working as her assistant next semester, I'm here now for my interview.

W: Oh, yes. I know all about that job. I did it two years ago.

M: Really? Did you like it?

W: I think it was the best I've had at school. It paid eight dollars an hour, which was three dollars an hour more than I got working at the school post office the year before.

M: That is a good salary. What did you do?

W: I was in charge of grading all the problem sets that were assigned as homework. I never had trouble doing it, and of course, Prof. Gilmore was always available to help me if I had any questions.

M: I think I'd enjoy doing that sort of work. It would be very good experience for anyone thinking about becoming a teacher.

W: Absolutely. You also learn how to use the computer data base, because the records are kept on it. And building up your computer skills is a good preparation for lots of jobs.

M: The job sounds great, but I'm a little worded about how much time it might take.

W: It's pretty reasonable. It never took me more than five hours a week to do all the grading and then another thirty to forty minutes to record the grades on the computer.

(20)

B.She used to work for Professor Gilmore.

听力原文:W: Oh, hi, Daniel. Are you going to the in-service gaining today?

M: You bet. I missed the training session last month, so I have to be sure to make this one. Aren't you excited about the program?

W: Not really. Before I became a nurse I drove an ambulance and had a lot of emergency medical training. Practicing basic first aid techniques is a kind of boring for me.

M: Well I can understand that. But you know, it's amazing how quickly you get out of practice. As nurses in a hospital, we have all the fancy equipment for medical emergencies-and plenty of doctors around, so we hardly ever get a chance to practice basic techniques. They're really easy to forget. And you know that practice makes perfect.

W: I can see your point, and it never hurts to review what you're already supposed to know. By the way, who's teaching the class this time?

M: Dr. Huston. She's the new emergency room physician.

W: Well, she certainly ought to know what she's talking about. I've heard she's a really good surgeon.

M: That's right. I've been taking care of some of the patients she worked on, and they all think highly of her.

W: When are you going to head over to the classroom?

M: Immediately. I'm just on my way there. Do you want to walk over together?

W: That sounds good to me. Let's go and prepare for the training.

(20)

A.At a dentist office.

B.In a school.

C.In an ambulance.

D.At a hospital.
