听力原文: An airline is an organization which provides aviation services for passengers and cargo. It owns or leases airlines for reasons of mutual benefits. The scale and scope of airline companies range from those with a single airplane carrying mail or cargo, to full service international airlines operating many hundreds of airplanes of various types. Airline services can be categorized as intercontinental, intra-continental, regional or domestic and may be operated as scheduled service or charters. These variations in the types of airline companies, their operating scope, and the routes they serve, make analysis of the airline industry complex. But one thing is certain: The industry is heavily influenced by the market now. In the past 50 years or so, the general trend of ownership bas gone from government-owned or government-supported to independent, for profit companies. This is a result of the government permitting greater freedom. This trend is not yet consistent across all airlines in all regions. The demand for air travel services depends on other things: needs for cargo transportation, business passenger demand, leisure passenger demand, which are all influenced by macroeconomic activity in the market. These trends are highly seasonal, and often depend on day-of-week, or time-of-day. The industry is cyclical. Four or five years of poor performance are followed by five or six years of gradual improvement in performance.

(33)

A.The market plays an important role in airline service.

B.It introduces the history of the aviation service.

C.It describes airline companies.

D.It introduces the scale and scope of airline companies.

听力原文: Federal Express is a private airline service which expands the Postal Service in the United States. It is the only U. S. airline specializing in the transportation of small packages--35 kilos or less.

Federal Express links 130 major U. S. cities and 10,000 surrounding communities. An urgent package picked up in one part of the country this afternoon can be delivered to any other part of the country tomorrow morning. All of the Federal Express jets fly into the International Airport at Memphis, Tennessee, because it is located in the center of the United States.

The sorting facility for Federal Express is called "The Hub." Every night, from about 12 midnight to 3 a. m. , the packages are gathered and sorted into shipments for specific destinations. The main labor force is comprised of students working part-time.

Since Federal Express started business in 1971, it has flown millions of air kilometers without failure. In the space of one hour, 39 jets will take off to destinations all across the United States.

For the moment she has taken a job in an office. But she is going to attend evening classes. In particular, she -wants to improve her French and she has also decided to take up a second language. This is because foreign languages are essential for a stewardess.

Among other things, she proposes to work in the kitchen and the dining-room. This will be especially valuable experience because an important part of a stewardess' work is to serve and feed the passengers.

Finally, if she has the time, she will go and work in a hospital for a while. Again this will provide mere valuable experience.

So, you see, Janet has made up her mind and she is preparing for her career very carefully. But it was not easy for her to decide. She asked a large number of people and they all gave her conflicting advice!

听力原文:M: Hello?

W: Hello, Alan. This is Lucy. I'm in trouble.

M: What happened?

W: I'm afraid I won't be on the flight this afternoon. I got blocked in a traffic jam on the way to the airport and, by the time I got here there were no seats left. The airline had oversold the seats. I don't know what to do.

M: Well, the best thing to do is to get a seat on another airline. You could ask your airline to arrange for it. There might be a later flight tonight, or a flight tomorrow morning.

W: Well, if I have to stay overnight at the airport, I don't think I have enough cash to pay bills. I left my credit card at home.

M: Oh, that's unlucky.

W: So, what do you think I should do?

M: Well, the only thing to do is—er—for us to pay for your room and you can pay us back later. I'll

give them my credit card number and they'll charge it to me.

W: Thank you so much, Alan.

M: It's a pleasure.

听力原文: Despite its enormous size the Airbus A380 still manages to look graceful. The double-decker plane that can carry over 550 passengers dwarfs all other commercial aircraft. Later today one will land for the first time in the UK. Wings are produced here in North Wales and traveled by land, river and sea for assembly in France.

Until now the Boeing 747 Jumbo was the world's biggest passenger plane, but no longer. A380 is as high as an 8-storey building, take-off thrust from the plane's four engines equals 2,500 family cars. Without seats, it can contain 10 squash courts. But the European Airbus will soon have an American rival, Boeing's 787 Dream liner, which is smaller, can fly further, and isn't restricted to large airports.

These aircrafts represent extraordinary technological breakthrough, reducing fuel emissions by about 20%, much better conditions inside the aircraft and offering both airlines and passengers much greater flexibility in their long-hauled journeys. A380 may offer shops and a casino or even a gym so that its good-value seats will win the airline battle.

Critics of the new aircraft including environmentalists say it might be more fuel efficient per passenger than other jets, but the benefits we'll get from it are a drop in the ocean compared to the huge climate emissions from aviation. And aviation is the fastest growing source of climate-changing gases both in Britain and worldwide.

(33)

A.In the UK.

B.In North Wales.

C.In France.

D.In the US.

听力原文: Air travel is such an everyday experience these days. We are not surprised when we read about a politician having talks with the Japanese Prime Minister one day, attending a conference in Australia the following morning and having to be off at midday to sign a trade agreement in Bangkok. But frequent long-distance flying can be very tiring. The traveler begins to feel his brain is in one country, his digestion in another and his powers of concentration nowhere. In short, he hardly knows where he is.

The fatigue we normally experience after a long journey is more intensely felt when we fly from east to west or the other way round because we cross time zones. Air travel is so quick nowadays that we can leave London after breakfast and be in New York in eight hours, yet what really disturbs us most is that when we arrive it is only lunch time but we have already had lunch on the plane and are expecting dinner.

Doctors say that since air travelers are in no condition to work after crossing a number of time zones, they should go straight to bed on arrival. Airline pilots, in fact, whose experience is so obviously relevant that it ought to serve as a guide, often live by their own watches ignoring local time, and have breakfast at midnight if necessary. The less reason to worry about their health is because they are used to flying and are physically fit.

(33)

A.Because he is a politician.

B.Because he is a businessman.

C.Because he travels by air.

D.Because he has to attend different meetings.

听力原文: I had spent my last day in London visiting friends, taking pictures, and doing some last minute shopping. Among other things, I had bought some presents: a shirt for my brother, a woolen blanket for my sister, and a battery-powered alarm clock for my father.

After traveling in a crowded bus and waiting in the noisy airport building, I was glad to be sitting in the plane at last.In a few minutes now we would be asked to fasten our seat belts, and then we would soon be up in the sky on our flight to Berlin.

But I had been mistaken. Ten minutes later, instead of enjoying the beauty of the evening sky high above the clouds, I was sitting in a smokefilled room with an airline official and a police officer at my side. On the table in front of me was one of my suitcases.

The officials were very polite. They asked me to show them my passport, my ticket, and my luggage check. Then I was requested to open the suitcase and to spread out its contents on the table.

I did as I was told. The moment I placed the alarm clock on the table, the two officials looked at each other and smiled.

Hearing the clock ticking away merrily, I suddenly understood. Someone must have heard the ticking noise coming from my suitcase and thought there was a time bomb hidden in it.

(33)

A.Visiting friends.

B.Taking pictures.

C.Buying presents for his family.

D.All of the above.
