M: I love it.

W: I designed it myself.

M: It's beautiful.

W: Are you ready? We're supposed to be there before the guests arrive.

M: I know. I know. Help me with this tie, will you? Honey, I'm scared to death.

W: But this is what you've been working for all these years, you really deserve it.

M: No, no. I worked to put together a book of photographs. This is show business.

W: Well, it's all part of the same job. Just relax and enjoy it.

M: You're right. I earned this, and I'm going to enjoy it. Just a minute, as soon as I recover from my nervous breakdown.

W: What are you afraid of?

M: Everything. A critic was there this morning. He probably hates my work. I have to sign copies of my book for a lot of people I never met before. Oh, my new shoes hurt my feet...

W: You're going to be a great success. Are you ready?

M: As soon as I get these buttons on.

W: Let me help. Morn and Dad are already on their way down to the gallery. There! You look very attractive.

M: Thank you. Well, I suppose I've run out of excuses.

W: Mm-hmm. Let's go...

听力原文:M: I always feel like I need more hours from the day. Work, family...

W: I understand. Every morning I spend time looking for glasses, keys, or the other shoe.

M: Yeah, the other shoe! I've been there. But what's our mistake?

W: I think it's being disorganized. When you're disorganized, you don't know where things are. If you can stay organized, you can really save some time.

M: All right. Let's start saving time from this very minute.

W: Bank online?

M: Yes. Some people are afraid to do it but it's something smart and safe. You can talk to the service representatives about how to do it and how safe it is. Just think about writing checks, making transfers, checking statements.., you can save about 30 minutes, or even up to an hour. I've actually saved a lot of time.

W: And for library people, make a list and go online first before you actually make the trip to the library.

M: Exactly right. Reserve books online rather than go there to find the library doesn't have the book you want. You can put it in order and they will call you and let you know when it's in and then you go to get it.

W: That's brilliant. Now people who are always looking for the same phone number?

M: Highlight it in a bright color.

W: Ok. My weakness is my purse. It is the horrible bottomless pit. I don't even know what's in there.

M: Keep a pen in every purse and a zip-locked bag of note cards, so when you are waiting in line or for an appointment, you could write down notes quickly. Keep a separate pouch inside for your receipts.

(20)

A.Their busy mornings and days.

B.Advantages of staying organized.

C.Various methods of saving time.

D.Life of two disorganized persons.

听力原文:W: Hmm, Hi.

M: Hi. I'm going door to door tonight to tell people about the student action coalition. Do you have a few minutes?

W: Sure. You know I think I read something in the newspaper last week.

M: Yeah. There was an article about this in the last issue. See, we're trying to protect and conserve some of the open spaces on campus.

W: That's right. You are the group that's opposing the extension of the parking lot next to Swing Hall, right?

M: That's us. We must feel that it's important to save some of the natural beauty of the campus, like over-by Swing. Some of those trees are hundreds of years old.

W: It is a pretty spot. My friends and I have had picnics over there by the creek.

M: Then you understand how we feel. We're organizing a rally on Thursday afternoon to get the administration to reconsider the parking lot plan.

W: Well, I have a class on Thursday afternoon.

M: But maybe you could sign this petition? We're going to submit it to the administration to demonstrate how the students feel about this.

W: Sure, let me get a pen and I'll sign it.

M: I have a pen right here. And let me leave you this pamphlet about the student action coalition. Maybe you could come to some of our meeting. We get together once a month.

W: Yeah. I'd like to know more about your group. Let me know when the next meeting is and I'll try to be there.

听力原文:W: In the studio today we've got Roberta Wilson, who's a time management consulta
nt. Good morning, Roberta.

M: Good morning, Cindy.

W: Roberta, what exactly do time management consultants do?

M: Well, Cindy, it's all about helping people to organize their work in an ef fective way: maximum efficiency; minimum stress.

W: Hah, sounds like something I need. Who are your clients?

M: Um, mainly business people, but I've also worked with politicians, civil servants and university lecturers.

W: Um, quite a range, then. And what sort of things help people to organ ize their time? I suppose punctuality is important.

M: Um, yes and no. It's easier to finish a meeting on time if it starts on time. But in international contexts, you do have to be aware of cultural differences.

W: For example?

M: Well, in Britain big, formal meetings usually start on time, but less for mal meetings often begin a few minutes late. In Germany, on the other hand, people expect all meetings to begin on time; In some countries, er, for example, in Latin America, there's a more relaxed attitude. So, you d6 have to adapt to circumstances.

W: Um, it sounds like even if you manage your own time very well, you still can't control what other people do.

M. Well, you can set limits. If you're meeting a friend who always arrives late, you can say, "Well, I'm going to wait for 15 minutes. If they aren't there by then, I'll leave,"

W: Hmm. I've got one friend who's always late. I don't think I'd ever see her if I did that.

M: Hah, but people who are always late are the ones you need to set limits with. If they know that you won't wait, then, perhaps they'll make an effort.

W: Isn't that rather harsh?

M: No, not really. Someone who constantly turns up late is putting a low value on your time. Let them know you've got other things to do. And I'm not suggesting you do that with everyone just the persistent latecomers.

(20)

A.To help people to organize their work in an effective way.

B.To help people to become efficient at their jobs.

C.To help people to arrange their time properly.

D.To help people to reduce stress.

听力原文:M: So how come you chose psychology?

W: Well, at lust I didn't have any clear idea of what I wanted to do after university, I didn't say to myself "I want to be a clinical psychologist or a researcher or anything like that". I suppose I have just always been interested in people and the way they act.

M: And what was the course like?

W: It was just great. The teachers were all really friendly and they had this special approach to teaching. The whole course was based on a problem-solving approach.

M: I see from your CV that you graduated in 1997 and after that, let me see...

W: I got a job with the department of employment. It was only a temporary thing for about six months. I used to have to design questionnaires and things like that for surveys that they carried out. And I guess the psychology course at college helped me a lot.

M: So why did you leave?

W: Well, four years is a long time to be asking people questions. You know those sorts of questions about washing powder and shampoo. After two years of doing that I felt that while I could do it well, now I want to do something else that's a little different. It just wasn't challenging for me any more and because I needed a challenge I decided to move when I heard about the position of Senior Researcher here at institute I knew that's exactly what I want.

(23)

A.Be a researcher in the area.

B.Be a clinical psychologist.

C.Know how to be a problem-solver.

D.Know more about people's behavior.

听力原文:W: Welcome to our program, Tom.

M: Thank you.

W: Tom, how long have you been a police officer?

M: I've been a police officer for forty years.

W: Forty years. And you've had. different types of assignments on the police force, I guess.

M: Yeah, I've done everything from patrol to undercover work to detective work, and now I'm supervising investigations.

W: Tom I think most people would say that being a police officer is a very stressful job. Would you agree?

M: Yes, it's definitely a stressful assignment you can have.

W: So, what's probably the most stressful assignment you can have?

M: I'd say patrol is the most stressful assignment.

W: That's interesting! In what way?

M: Well, I guess the biggest part of the stress is the fear factor—the fear of the unknown.

W: What do you mean, Tom?

M: Well, in patrol work, you don't know from moment to moment who you are talking to or what their reaction is going to be to justify your presence. Let's say, for example, a patrol officer stops someone for a traffic violation. It seems as though that would be a very low-stress situation.

W: Yes, it is a very low-stress situation.

M: But the truth is, there are more police officers injured during a routine stop.

W: Really?

M: Really! That's why all police officers are taught from the very beginning to be aware of their surroundings. People back over policemen, people shoot policemen, and people jump out at policeman—different kinds of things. So that's probably the most stressful time.

W: I see. Let's take a break and then we'll move on to our next topic.

M: All right.

(20)

A.Friends.

B.A police officer and an investigator.

C.Two police officers.

D.A police officer and a program hostess.
