听力原文:M: Excuse me. May I have some information about the reception party that you are

advertising outside? It's for new students, isn't that right?

W: That's right and what would you like to know about it?

M: Well, I'm not really sure what the purpose of the event is.

W: The party will provide students with a chance to get to know each other, and a chance for students who have successfully been through university to pass on some valuable advice.

M: (13) Who's organizing the event? Is it the faculty or...?

W: Actually, (13) it is the Alumni Association. So, It's strictly a student-to-student event.

M: I hope we won't have to sit through a lot of boring speeches. I mean, aren't these students just "brains" anyway? What can they actually do to help a guy like me?

W: No, (14) these people are not "brains" at all. The Alumni are simply a group of normal, but grateful students who hope that, by sharing their experiences with new students, they can help more students to successfully graduate.

M: But will we have any time for some fun at this party?

W: Most of the time will be split between eating, dancing, and singing—so not to worry. However, some words of wisdom from the former students should not be missed.

M: You've got a point. Those are, after all, success stories if they've managed to survive university life. I hear about only half of all students who start university actually finish it.

W: And besides that, there's another reason to go.

M: What's that?

W: (15) The pie they'll be serving is delicious. I know it since I'm the one who will be making it.

13. Who is organizing the event?

14.What does the woman say about the event organizers?

15.What can be inferred about the woman's role in the party?

(1)

A.The University faculty.

B.The Student Association.

W: What can I do for you?

M: Well, I'm working on a term paper about the influence of television on American presidential elections.

M: Yes, I've found a few useful books there, but the reference librarian at the main library suggested that the library here at the graduate school have more specialized materials.

W: Okay. It depends on what you want. We do subscribe to a large number of journals. Since you're working on such a broad topic you'll probably have to do a lot of digging.

M: Do you think I can get something relevant here?

W: It may take some time, but you'll be able to find many articles relevant to your topic. We also have quite a few newspapers on microfilm.

M: I think I've come to the right place. How can I find out which journals you have?

W: There's a list of all of them. But if you want to search by author or by subject you can use one of the computers over there. Everything we have is in there.

W: You can request any outside materials just by typing your request into the computer.

听力原文:M: Excuse me. Are you going to buy concert tickets?

W: Yes, I am. So are all these people in front of me.

M: Have you been here long?

W: About 45 minutes. I've moved forward a total of about 3 feet in that time.

M: You are kidding.

W: Not at all. There was a couple up ahead of me who got so disgusted they finally gave up and left. They said they'd been waiting for more than an hour.

M: Terrific. Does anyone know what's causing the delay?

W: If so, no one has let us know. It could be that there aren't enough people selling tickets this afternoon. Or maybe their computer is down. I'm sure the concert hasn't been cancelled.

M: I just hope they don't run out of tickets before I get up there.

W: That really would be annoying, wouldn't it?

M: I guess I should have come before lunch. Or has it been like this all day?

W: Apparently it has. In fact, before I came I tried calling to charge my tickets over the phone, just to avoid this long wait. But they are not taking phone orders, or checks, or credit cards. It's cash or nothing, and you have to come in person.

M: It's a narrow street of medieval houses. It's worth seeing. Then you really should visit Holyrood Palace.

M: Why don't you buy some sweaters? Scottish sweaters are famous for their quality. And you must buy some whiskey. Of course you know that's our national drink.
