听力原文： Tennis was one of the original sports played at the modern Olympic Games which were held in Athens, Greece in 1896, and it lasted until the 1924 Games in Paris. Later tennis was dropped out from the Olympic Games from 1924 to 1968 due to the following reasons: the formats and the rules of the game were changed, lack of participants, unsuitable facilities, the resistance to the notion of posting an International Tennis Federation representative on the International Olympic Committee, mid a clash of dates with Wimbledon. (Wimbledon known as the Wimbledon Tournament is still one of the most celebrated sporting events in the world.) Philippe Chatrier, the President of the International Tennis Federation, lobbied for the sport to return to the Olympics for years but was unsuccessful. In 1968, tennis finally became non-medal demonstration competition at the Olympic Games. In 1988, tennis returned to the Olympic Games as an official sport. Olympic gold medals have been awarded in four events: men's and women's singles and men's and women's doubles.
In the past, tennis was not popular at all. But it is getting more and more accepted in China in recent years. Now China has several best players of the world. China is going to launch a new ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) men's tennis tournament next September in order to prepare for the 2008 Olympics.

听力原文： Cross was what people call a mystery man. We had known him for over five years, ever since he became a member of our modest club, but he had a way of keeping his private life to himself in all but unessential details. We knew his address, though he did not ever invite us to his home, and his age too, but only insignificant matters of this kind. It appeared that he did not have to work for a living as we did in our various ways. He had once hinted at an inheritance on which he managed to live comfortably. The region surrounding Lake Nyos is volcanic, and so sulphurous(硫磺的) volcanic gases were initially suspected as the cause of the disaster. But subsequent investigation by teams of scientists dispatched to the remote highland lake suggested that as much as 80 million cubic metres of CO2 formerly held in solution in the lake's depths, has been released explosively at its surface, such an event, called a limnic(湖泊的) eruption, had been recorded only once before-at nearby Lake Manoun, 35 kilometers from Lake Nyos. That eruption, which killed 37 people in 1984, was kept secret at first, as the Cameroonian authorities had suspected terrorist involvement.
Expeditions to Lake Nyos since the 1986 disaster have allowed researchers to unravel(拆开) the geological process that underlie the lake's lethal tendencies. Armed with this information, a small group of scientists and engineers-funded to the tune of $450,000 by the Office of US Foreign Disaster Assistance, with additional help from the French and Cameroonian governments arrived in the area in January to attempt to 'degas' the lake, and so prevent it killing again. The plan is simple—the limited budget and the lack of decent roads into the region mean it has to be. The team will lower a length of high-density polyethylene pipe deep into the lake and pipe CO2 rich water towards the surface, where the gas can bubble out on a controlled way.
Most experts agree that degassing the lake is a good idea. But some say there is a small chance that the effort could trigger another limnic eruption and lives at risk. Although villagers surrounding Lake Nyos have been evacuated(撤退) to avoid a repeat of the 1986 catastrophe, farmers and their livestock still venture into the area, lured by its lush pastures.
