听力原文:Students want to find the best way to put information into their long-term memori

听力原文: Students want to find the best way to put information into their long-term memories. They want to keep the information later when they take a test. What is the best way to learn inform0tion so they can remember it when they want to?

When studying, you should read the whole lesson first. This gives you the whole picture in which to put the ideas. New information that fits into the whole picture is easier to remember than separate facts. Yon also learn fester if you look at headings, introductions, important words, summaries, conclusions, and anything else that helps to organize the material, which is easier to understand.

Than the second step is to study the parts. Think about how they fit into the whole picture.

If you have a lot to study, don't try to do the whole job at once. Learning should be spread out and spaced. This gives the information time to "sink in." You should study grammar three times, a half hour each time. That is better than studying for an hour and a half at one time. Even shorter study periods are better for vocabulary lists and other difficult material. To learn the most in a two-hour study session, study different kinds of material; a half hour on grammar, 15 minutes on vocabulary, 20 minutes on writing, and so on. The change will help to keep you interested.

You forget most quickly right after you read or hear something new. You should review right away so you won't forget, and if possible, explain it to someone else. When you review and test yourself on the material, you are being active; active learning is better than just reading or listening.

(32)

A.It is normal to forget things.

B.How to keep things in your long-term memories.

C.How to study well.

D.How to get as much information as you can.

C.As simple and clinically reliable bonding methods to oxide ceramics exist, the rationale for development of alternative bonding methods might be reconsidered especially when these methods are more time consuming or require rather complicated and/or technique sensitive procedures.

D.Conducting a PubMed database search in May 2014 for articles dealing with the resin bond to dental zirconia ceramic reveals an astonishing increase of research being published in the last two decades years.

听力原文: Coffee can be considered one of nature's greatest gifts. It gives mental and emotional clarity without harmful side effects, and it contains a wealth of nutrients.Yet,when most people drink coffee, they are not thinking that the beverage is improving their health. In fact, some may even feel a little guilty, since some believe coffee isn't good for you at all.

The truth of the matter is: coffee, like anything else, can cause problems if too much is consumed. In the short-term,too much coffee will cause sleeping problems and hypertension. In the long-term,too much coffee will cause stomach problems as well as teeth staining.

As far as the benefits, moderate consumption of coffee, which means 1 to 4 cups a day, provides your body with a wealth of antioxidants. These substances are responsible for eliminating free radicals. They are the chemical byproducts produced any time your body does something.A small number of them can help serve as a buffer against negative elements, but if they aren't kept in check, they can cause health problems.Antioxidants ensure that this doesn't happen.

Even the caffeine content within coffee can be beneficial toward your health. One way it does this is by cleaning the water of your body's cells, which keeps your weight down while cleaning out impurities.

Why do some people feel guilty when they drink coffee?

A.They are not allowed to drink coffee.

B.They think coffee does no good to them.

C.They think coffee is too expensive.

D.They should not drink coffee when working.

When you are small, all ambitions fall into one grand category: when I'm grown up. When I'
m grown up. You say, I'll go up in space. I'm going to be an author. I'll kill them all and then they'll be sorry.

None of it ever happens, of course, or very little; but the fantasies give you the idea that there is something to grow up for. Indeed one of the saddest things about golden youth is the feeling that from eighteen on, it is all downhill; a determination to be better adults than the present job-takers is fine, but to refuse to grow up at all is just plain unrealism.

Right, so then you get some of what you want, or something like it, or something that will do all right, and for years you are too busy to do more than live in the present and put one foot in front of the other; your goals stretching little beyond the day when the boss has a stroke or the moment when the children can bring you tea in bed and the later moment when they actually bring you hot tea, not mostly slopped in the saucer. However, I have now discovered an even sweeter category of ambition. When my children are grown up...

When my children are grown up, I'll learn to fly a plane. I will career round the sky, knowing that if I do "go pop" there will be at least no little ones to suffer shock and grief; that even if the worst does come, I'll at least escape a long stay in hospital and all that looking for your glasses in order to see where you've left your teeth. When the children are grown up I'll actually be able to do a day's work in a day, instead of spreading over three, and go away for a weekend without planning as if for a trip to the moon. When I'm grown up--when they're grown up--I'll be free.

Of course. I know it is not to get worse before it gets better. Twelve-year-old, I'm told, don't go to bed at seven, so you don't ever get your evenings; once they're past ten you have to start worrying about their friends instead of simply shooting the intruders off the doorstep. Of course, you've got even more to worry about.

What interests the writer about the young is that they ______.

A.have so many unselfish ambitions

B.have such long-term ambitions

C.don't all want to be spacemen

D.all long for adult pleasures

听力原文: There are two kinds of memory: short-term and longterm. Information in long-term memory can be recalled at a later time when it is needed. The information may be kept for days and weeks. In contrast, information in short-term memory is kept for only a few seconds, usually by repeating the information over and over. The following experiment shows how short-term memory has been studied.

Henning studied how students who are learning English as second language remember vocabulary. The subjects in his experiment were 75 college students. They represented all levels of ability in English: beginning, intermediate, advanced, and native-speaking students. To begin with, the subjects listened to a recording of a native speaker reading a paragraph in English. Following the recording, the subjects took a 15-question test to see which words they remembered. Each question had four choices. The subjects had to circle the word they had heard in the recording. Some of the questions had four choices that sounded alike. For example, weather, whether, wither, and wether are four words sound alike. Some of the questions had four choices that have the same meaning. Method, way, manner, and system would be four words with the same meaning. Finally the subjects took a language proficiency test.

Henning found that students with a lower proficiency in English made more of their mistakes on words that sound alike; students with a higher proficiency made more of their mistakes on words that have the same meaning. Henning's results suggest that beginning students hold the sound of words in their short-term memory, and the advanced students hold the meaning of words in their short-term memory.

A.To study how students remember English vocabulary by short-term memory.

B.To study how students learn English vocabulary.

C.To study how to develop student's ability in English.

D.To study how long information in short-term memory is kept.

Questions 下列各 are based on the following passage. Large companies need a way to reac
h the savings of the public at large. The same problem, on asmaller scale, faces practically every company, trying to develop new products and create new jobs. There can be little prospect of raising the sort of sums needed from friends and people we know, andwhile banks may agree to provide short-term finance, they are generally unwilling to provide money on a permanent basis for long-term projects. So companies turn to the public, inviting people to lend themmoney, or take a share in the business in exchange for a share in future profits. This they do by issuingstocks and shares in the business through the Stock Exchange. By doing so, they can put into circulationthe savings of individual and institutions, both at home and overseas. When the saver needs his money back, he does not have to go to the company with whom he originally placed it. Instead, he sells his shares through a stockbroker to some other saver who is seekingto invest his money. Many of the services needed both by industry and by each of us are provided by the Governmentor by local authorities. Without hospitals, roads, electricity, telephones, railways, this country could notfunction. All these require continuous spending on new equipment and new development if they are to serve us properly, requiring more money than is raised through taxes alone. The Government, localauthorities, and nationalized industries therefore frequently need to borrow money to finance major capital spending, and they too, come to the Stock Exchange. There is hardly a man or woman in this country whose job or whose standard of living does not depend on the ability of his or her employers to raise money to finance new development. In one wayor another, this new money must come from the savings of the country. The Stocky Exchange exists top rovide a channel through which these savings can reach those who need finance. Almost all companies trying to develop new products and creating new jobs have to

A.persuade the banks to provide long-term finance

B.rely on their own financial resources

C.borrow large sums of money from friends and relatives

D.depend on the population as a whole for finance

Last year, researchers published new findings from the Women"s Health Initiative, a long-term study of more than 160000midlife women. The data showed that multivitamin-takers are no(26)than those who don"t take the pills, at least when it comes to the big diseases——cancer, heart disease, and(27) "Even women with poor diets weren"t helped by taking amultivitamin," says the study author Marian Neuhouser, PhD, in the cancer(28)program at the Fred Hutchinson CancerResearch Center, in Seattle. Vitamin(29)came into fashion in the early 1900s, when it was difficult or impossible for most people to get a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. Back then, vitamin-deficiency diseases weren"t unheard-of: the bowed legs and(30)ribs caused by a severe shortage of vitamin D, or the skin problems and mental confusion caused by a lack of vitamin B, But these days, you"re(31)unlikely to be seriously deficient if you eat an average diet, if only because many packaged foods are vitamin-enriched. Sure, most of us could do with a couple more daily(32)of produce, but a multivitamin doesn"t do a good job at(33)those. "Multivitamins have maybe two dozen(34)but plans,s have hundreds of other useful compounds,"Neuhouser says. "If you just take a multivitamin, you"re missing lots of compounds that may be providing benefits. " There is onegroup that probably ought to keep taking a multivitamin: women of reproductive age. The supplement is insurance(35)pregnancy.
