听力原文:Now and again I have had horrible dreams, but not enough of them to make me lose

听力原文: Now and again I have had horrible dreams, but not enough of them to make me lose my delight in dreams. To begin with, I like the idea of dreaming, of going to bed and lying still and then, by some magic, wandering into another world. Most people or at least most Western Europeans do not seem to accept dreaming as part of their lives. They appear to see it as an irritating little habit, like sneezing or yawning. I have never understood this. My dream life does not seem as important as my waking life, if only because there is far less of it, but to me it is important.

Then again, the dream life has its own advantages. The dead are there, smiling and talking. The past is there, and perhaps, the future is there too, winking at us. This dream life is often overshadowed by huge mysterious anxieties, with luggage that cannot be packed and trains that refuse to be caught; and both persons and scenes there are not as dependable and solid as they are in waking life, so that Brown and Smith become one person while Robinson breaks into two; and there are moments of terror in the dream world that are worse than anything we have known under the sun. Yet this other life has its interests, its fun and its satisfaction.

(33)

A.He loses his delight in dreams when he has horrible dreams.

B.He still feels fun to dream although he might have some horrible dreams.

C.He likes the idea of dreaming, but not actual dreaming at night.

D.He often asks other people about their dreams.

听力原文:M: Why, Mary Smith. I haven't seen you for ages. How have you been?

W: John, John Brown. It has been a long time, hasn't it? It must be at least a year.

M: No, we talked at the Johnson's Christmas party last December. Don't you remember?

W: That's right. Well, how are you? Still working for the Jones and French Company?

M: No, I changed jobs about 3 months ago. I'm with the National Bank now. How about you?

W: I'm still teaching at the university. But I switched from the German department to the Spanish department.

M: Don't tell me you speak Spanish, too.

W: Sure. I grew up in Spain, you know. German was what I studied in college, but my Spanish is much better.

M: All I've ever managed to learn is a little Italian. I can get a pizza in Rome, but not much more.

W: Well, how is your family? Are the children all in school now?

M: No, Billy is still at home. Tom is in the third grade and Jane's in the second. Billy could have gone to kindergarten, but we didn't want him to start school too early. So we're keeping him out until next year.

W: Our two children haven't started school yet either. But my daughter Sue will go in the fall, too. Oh, my bus band just came in. I want to go ask him something. I'll talk to you again later, John.

听力原文: The Chinese New Year is now popularly known as the Spring Festival because it starts from the Beginning of Spring. Its origin is too old to be traced. Several explanations are hanging around. All agree, however, that the word Nian, which in modem Chinese solely means "year", was originally the name of a monster beast that started to prey on people the night before the beginning of a new year

One legend goes that the beast Nian had a very big mouth that would swallow a great many people with one bite. People were very seared. One day, an old man came to their rescue, offering to subdue Nian. So, it swallowed many of the beasts of prey on earth that also harassed people and their domestic animals from time to time.

After that, the old man disappeared riding the beast Nian. He turned out to be an immortal god. Now that Nian is gone and other beasts of prey are 'also scared into forests, people begin to enjoy their peaceful life. Before the old man left, he had told people to put up red paper decorations on their windows and doors at each year's end to scare a way Nian in case it sneaked back again, because red is the color the beast feared the most.

From then on, the tradition of observing the conquest of Nian is carried on from generation to generation.

听力原文:M: My brother Mike has just done a course at the Green Park Camping School.

W: Really! What made him decide to do that?

M: Well, for one thing, some boys in his class decided to do it and they dared him to go with them!

W: You mean he didn't really want to go?

M: I think he wanted to go but I think he was also a little frightened. Of course, now that he's done it, he's very pleased with himself and he's always talking about it.

W: So he enjoyed it, didn't he?

M: Not exactly. I think he's enjoying the feeling of having done it more than he enjoyed actually doing it!

W: What sort of things did he do?

M: Oh, all sorts of open-air activities: hiking, camping, canoeing. One thing he had to do was to capsize a canoe and then right it again without getting out. He said the water was very cold but that he hardly noticed it at the time.

W: Why not?

M: He was too busy righting the canoe!

W: That doesn't sound very comfortable at this time of the year.

M: That's what I said when he told me. On another occasion he had to spend a day and a night by himself in the open country.

W: Was he frightened?

M: He was at first, apparently, but then he got used to it.

W: It seems to me that the course did him a lot of good. I expect it's made him more self-reliant.

M: That's what he says—and now he wants me to go!

(20)

A.He was eager to do the course.

B.He had done a lot of outdoor exercise.

C.He enjoyed adventurous activities.

D.He was timid and reluctant to go to the course.
