听力原文:W: Look, I'm sorry, but the books for Chem. 100 aren't in yet.

M: Why not? School started last week.

W: I really don't know. Maybe the professor ordered them late, or the publisher ran out of them and they are on back order.

M: This is awful. I'm worried about this course anyway. I didn't do that well in chemistry in high school.

W: I know what you mean. Did you check the used book section?

M: Yes. No luck there.

W: Okay. Look, why don't you go over to the library? I'll bet that the professor put at least one copy on reserve.

M: Do you think so? That would be great. At least I could make copies of the pages that I need until the books come in. Oh, wait. If there's only one copy, everyone will be trying to do that.

W: True. Well, we do have a bulletin board. You could put a notice up saying that you are looking for a book for Chemistry 100, and maybe someone who has it will want to sell it directly to you. Do you have a phone in the dorm?

M: Yeah. I'll just put my name and phone number on the notice. That's a great idea! Where's the bulletin board?

W: By the T-shirts and clothing near the front door. Oh, and be sure to put down the exact title of the book, too, because they don't always use the same one.

M: Thanks. You've been a big help.

(20)

A.A notice on the bulletin board.

B.A book for a class the man is taking.

C.A chemistry class that is being taught.

D.The library reserve desk.

听力原文:W: We've all heard the saying "Laughter is the best medicine." How important is i
t to out health, Dr. Berk?

M: This saying has been scientifically proven! According to our research, laughter strengthens the immune system and lowers the levels of stress hormones...

W: Can you be more specific?

M: Well, (23)after a bout of laughter, blood pressure drops to a lower, healthier level than when the laughter began. Dr. William Fry of Stanford University found that "twenty seconds of guffawing gives the heart the same workout as three minutes of hard rowing".

W: What else?

M: Another year-long study of heart attack victims done at the Oakhurst Health Research Institute in California found that of those patients who spent half an hour a day watching comedy videos, 10 percent had a second heart attack, whereas 30 percent of those who did not watch had a second attack.

W: Wow! Laughter is really a good medicine to patients. So do we have to learn to laugh?

M: Not necessarily. (24)Since laughing is something people can do sitting down, costs no money, and requires no special exercise equipment or skill, it's the perfect workout for anyone who doesn't have the time or desire to participate in a regular fitness program.

W: Oh, I see. What about the situation in which you aren't in a mood to laugh?

M: OK, remember, (25)even when you fake a smile or laugh, you get the same physiological benefits as when it's the real thing, because your mind is smart, but your body is stupid and can't tel1 the difference.

W: Great! I've learned it. Thank you very much!

M: My pleasure.

(20)

A.The levels of his stress hormones will be lowered.

B.His blood pressure will drop to a lower level.

C.He will have a better appetite.

D.His body temperature will rise.

We can make mistakes at any age. Some mistakes we make are about money. But most mistake
s are about people."Did Jerry really care when I broke up with Helen?" "When I got that great job, did Jerry really feel good about it, as a friend? Or did he envy my luck?" When we look back, doubts like these can make us feel bad.But when we look back, it's too late.

Why do we go wrong about our friends--or our enemies? Sometimes what people say hides their real meaning. And if we don't really listen, we miss the feeling behind the words.Suppose someone tells you, "you're a lucky dog".Is he really on your side? If he says, "You're a lucky guy" or "You're a lucky gal", that's being friendly. But "lucky dog"? There's a bit of envy in those words.Maybe he doesn't see it himself. But bringing in the "dog" bit puts you down a little. What he may be saying is that he doesn't think you deserve your luck.

How can you tell the real meaning behind someone's words? One way is to take a good look at the person talking.Do his words fit the way he looks? Does what he says square with the tone of voice? His posture (体态)? The look in his eyes? Stop and think. The minute you spend thinking about the real meaning of what people say to you may save another mistake.

B.feels he may not have "read" his friends' true feelings correctly

D.is sorry that his friends let him down

2.In the second paragraph, the author uses the example of "You're a lucky dog" to show that __________.

A.the speaker of this sentence is just being friendly

B.this saying means the same as "You're a lucky guy' or "You're a lucky gal"

C.sometimes the words used by a speaker give a clue to the feeling behind the words

D.the word "dog" shouldn't be used to apply to people

3.This passage tries to tell you how to __________.

A.avoid mistakes about money and friends

B.bring the "dog" bit into our conversation

C.avoid mistakes in understanding what people tell you

D.keep people friendly without trusting them

4.In listening to a person, the important thing is __________.

A.to notice his tone, his posture, and the look in his eyes

B.to listen to how he pronounces his words

C.to check his words against his manner, his tone of voice, and his posture

D.not to believe what he says

5.If you followed the advice of the writer, you would __________.

A.be able to get the real meaning of what people say to you

听力原文: As you prepare to become elementary school teachers, you'll be hearing a lot of discussions about the relevance of teaching penmanship. Now years ago when I was studying education in college, reading, writing and arithmetic were the basics of elementary school education. It went without saying that writing meant first and foremost penmanship. That is, the neatness of a child's handwriting. It was considered so important that sometimes prizes were even awarded for the best handwriting. But when we move ahead a few decades into the 1980s, we see teachers and administrators and even parents telling us that teaching penmanship is a waste of time. With computers, they said, children can successfully manipulate the keyboard or mouse of their home computers before they can even hold a pencil.

This change in attitude had an impact on the classroom. In your homework for this week you'll be looking at what statewide curricular standards in the US say about penmanship. You'll see that in many states penmanship has been deemphasized in a required curriculum, especially in the later years of elementary school. In California, for example, the curriculum calls for fourth-grade students to... and I quote, "write fluently and legibly in cursive or grades." But after this, the curriculum makes no further mention of penmanship in Grades Five, Six or beyond. Any higher level of quality or neatness is simply not among the curricular objectives. Your assignment is to look at what the curricular standards for all fifty states say about penmanship.

(33)

A.It's now taught with the aid of computers.

B.It isn't considered as important today as it was in the past.

C.Children today learn it earlier than those did in the past.

D.A lot of time is spent teaching it.

听力原文:W: Now you can feel something interesting here. Tonight we invite one person to d
escribe his 3 dreams. Jack, could you start first dream?

M: Ok! I knew that the brakes of my car needed repairing, but I did nothing about it, until one night I dreamt I was driving my car along a familiar road. Suddenly I had to brake because I was driving towards a wall. However, when I put my toot on the brake nothing happened and I crashed into the wall.

W: Oh! That's amazing! How about your second one, Jack?

M: I was walking down an unfamiliar road when I reached a dark and miserable house. Grey clouds covered the sky, and so I went inside the house where I found a poor, pathetic person, wearing clothes similar to those my wife wore. I didn't recognize her and felt sorry for her. There was nothing else in the dream but when I woke the next morning, I felt the misery and unhappiness of it all day.

W: It's quite special. And how about your third one, do you have anything special to say? M: One day I was sitting in my office, listening to a group of colleagues whispering and talking about me. I couldn't hear what they were saying but it worried me. That night I dreamt exactly the same sequence again, except that in my dream I saw something I'd missed during the day. While they were whispering they were all looking down at something. The next morning when I woke up I realized exactly why they'd been whispering and talking about me. That day was my birthday. Wasn't it possible that they'd been looking down at a birthday card? My dream was right. I did get a card from my colleagues, whom I'd suspected of talking about me.

(23)

A.Painting.

B.Washing.

C.Repairing.

D.Petrol filling.
