Researchers have established that when people are mentally engaged, biochemical changes occur in the brain that allow it to act more effectively in cognitive(认知的) areas such as attention and memory. This is true regardless of age.

This increase in weight has been uneven as well as fast. As a result, undernourished and overnourished people frequently live cheek by jowl (面颊). The mix can even occur within a single household. A study of families in Indonesia found that nearly 10% contained both the hungry and the fat. This is a mysterious phenomenon, but might have something to do with people of different ages being given different amounts of food to eat.

The prospect of heading off these problems is bleak. In many affected countries there are cultural factors to contend with, such as an emphasis on eating large meals together, or on food as a form. of hospitality. Moreover, there is a good measure of disbelief on the part of policymakers that such a problem could exist in their countries. Add to that reluctance on the part of governments to spend resources on promoting diet and exercise while starvation is still a real threat, and the result is a recipe for inaction. The first way we can approach language is as a phenomenon of the individual person. It is
concerned with, describing and explaining language as a matter of human behavior. People sneak and write; they also evidently read and understand what they hear. They are not born doing so; they have to acquire these skills. Not. everybody seems to develop them to the same degree. People may suffer accidents or diseases, which impair their performance. Language is thus-seen as part of human psychology, a particular sort of behavior, the behavior. which has as its principal function that of communication.

The trouble with the term "behavior" is that it is often taken to refer only to more or less overt, and describable, physical movements and acts. Yet part of language behavior. -- that of understanding spoken or written language, for example -- has little or no physically observable signs. It is true we can sometimes infer that understanding has taken place by the changes that take place in the other person's behavior. When someone has been prohibited from doing something, we may infer that he has understood the prohibition by observing that thereafter he never behaves in that way. We cannot, of course, be absolutely sure that his subsequent behavior. is a result of his understanding; it might be due to a loss of interest or inclination. So behavior. must be taken to include unobservable activity, often only to be inferred from other observable behavior.

Once we admit that the study of language behavior. involves describing and explaining the unobservable, the situation becomes much more complicated, because we have to postulate some set of processes, some internal mechanism, which operates when we speak and understand. We have to postulate something we can call a mind. The study of language from this point of view can then be seen as a study of the specific properties, processes and states of the mind whose outward manifestations are observable behavior; what we have to know in order to perform. linguistically.

This approach to language, as a phenomenon of the individual, is thus principally concerned with explaining how we acquire language, and its relation to general human cognitive systems, and with the psychological mechanisms underlying the comprehension and production of speech: much less with the problem of what language is for, that is, its function as communication, since this necessarily involves more than a single individual.

For example, you may eat when you're under stress rather than when you're hungry. Choosing another activity to do when you feel stressed, such as taking a walk, may help you break the habit of eating at those times.

You're more likely to make changes in your habits if you set a specific goal for yourself. For example, instead of saying "I'm going to lose 20 pounds", decide that you'll be more active every other day of the week. Be specific about what kind of activity you'll do and which days you'll do it. Your new goal might be: "During my lunch hour on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, I'm going to walk for half an hour in the park." Once your new healthy behaviour becomes a habit, you can move on to another goal.

First, ask your family doctor if there is any kind of physical activity that you should not do. Being more physically active doesn't mean you need to have a formal or complicated exercise program. Remember that the best kind of activity is the kind that you'll keep doing. Whatever activity you choose, try to do it for at least 30 minutes per day on most days of the week.

Aerobic exercises, such as swimming, walking or jogging, raise your heart rate and help burn calories. The longer you exercise, the more fat your body will burn. Walking can be very helpful even if you don't walk fast.

Light weight training also has many health benefits. It helps add muscle mass to your body. Muscle burns calories faster than fat does.
