听力原文:Our environment is being polluted faster than nature and man's present efforts ca

n prevent it. Time is bringing us more people, and more people will bring us more industry, more motor vehicles, larger cities, and the growing use of man-made materials.

What can explain and solve this problem? The fact is that pollution is caused by man-by his desire for a modern way of life. We make "increasing industrialization" our chief aim. For its sake, we are willing to sacrifice every thing: clean air, pure water, good food, our health and the future of our children. There is a constant flow of people from the countryside into the cities, eager for the benefits of modern society. But as our technological achievements have grown in the last twenty years, so pollution has be come a serious problem.

Isn't it time we stopped to ask ourselves where we are going and why? It reminds one of the stories about the airline pilot who told his passengers over the loudspeaker, "I've some good news and some bad news. The good news is that we're making rapid progress at 530 miles per hour. The bad news is that we're lost and don't know where we're going." The sad fact is that this becomes a true story when applied to our modern society.

(30)

A.We are making too many vehicles.

B.We have more and more industry.

C.There are too many developing countries.

D.People use too many man-made materials.

听力原文: In a way, all of us are on a spaceship, the planet Earth. We move around the sun at 18 miles per second and never stop. On our spaceship we have five billion people and limited supply of air, water, and land. These supplies have to be used careful because we can't buy new air, water, or land from anywhere else.

The environment on our planet is a closed system: nothing new is ever added. Nature recycles its resources. Water, for example, evaporates and rises as visible drops to form. clouds. This same water returns to the Earth as rain or snow. The rain that falls today is actually the same water that fell on the land 70 million years ago.

Today, the Earth is in trouble. Factories pour dirty water into our rivers. Many fish die and the water becomes unhealthy for people to drink. Cars and factories put poisons into the air and cause plants, animals and people to get sick. People throw bottles and paper out of their car windows, and the roadside becomes covered with al sorts of wastes. Over the years, people have changed the environment, and we have pollution.

To continue to survive, we must learn how to use the Earth's resources wisely. We have to change our habits and stop dumping such enormous amounts of industrial waste into the water and air. We must cooperate with nature and learn better ways to use, not abuse, our environment.

(33)

A.Because both have a limited supply of air, water, and other resources.

B.Because the Earth moves around the sun as fast as a spaceship.

C.Because we can travel to outer space.

D.Because the Earth never stops moving.

听力原文: There is increasing scientific evidence that large cars cause more highway accidents than small cars. In the news recently was the story of a woman who died of a heart attack while driving her station wagon. The car was moving so fast that it went through the highway-dividing fence, resulting in a collision in which five people died. Those unnecessary deaths are attributable in part to the woman's choice of a large automobile. A lighter and smaller car probably wouldn't have gone through the fence, because the heavier the ear, the greater the force it will have in a collision. Furthermore, even if the lighter car had broken through the fence, its remaining energy would have been much less, and this would have reduced the chances of serious injury or death. Because of its small size, it might have missed the other car completely. The present design of the oversized automobile is largely responsible ant only for the increasing death toll on the highway but also for the rapid depletion of our resources of petroleum, for the pollution of our environment, for urban sprawl, and for the congestion and inconvenience of our cities.

(30)

A.The story of a woman who died of a heart attack.

B.The story of a car going through the highway-dividing fence.

C.The story of a collision in which five people died.

D.Large cars cause more highway accidents than small cars.

an help save the environment. Good evening, Carol.

W: Good evening, I'm glad to be here.

M: So, Carol, how can we save the environment?

W: By saving water.

M: Well, how can we do that?

W: By not using too much water when we wash dishes, take a bath, and when we do other things, like watering the plants outside.

M: Oh, I think I can do that. What else?

W: We should try to make our environment tidy.

M: What can we do?

W: When drinking or eating something outside, you should keep the garbage until you find a trashcan to put it in because littering makes our planet dirty. Do you like seeing trash all over the ground?

M: No, I don't. Do you have any final suggestions?

W: Yes. We shouldn't waste paper because trees are being cut down to make the paper. By recycling paper, we save the forests where animals live.

M: So, how can children recycle paper, I mean, everyday?

W: Well, for example, when I was in kindergarten, I used to save the newspapers so that I could make things out of them, like paper trees, instead of just throwing them away.

M: Good idea! What do you do now?

W: Now, the children in our neighbourhood collect newspapers once a month to take them to a recycling centre.

M: That's great. Well, thanks Carol for your ideas.

W: You're welcome.

听力原文: OK, so in our last class we were discussing big bands swing music. You remember this was a kind of dance music with a steady rhythm. (26) But today we deal with music played by smaller jazz bands. It's called bebop and (27)it may use all sorts of new types of rhythms, some of which are very irregular. We'll talk more about that later. (26)But first I want to talk about some of the social elements that I believe contributed to the development of bebop music. To do this, we have to look at when bebop arose and started becoming so popular, which was from the late 1930s through the 1940s, from the time of the environment for bebop music was the decline of the US economy. During the great depression, the economy suffered tremendously. And fewer people had money to spend on entertainment. Then during World War II the government imposed a new tax on public entertainment, what you might call performance tax. (28)The government collected money on performances that included any types of acting, dancing or singing, but not instrumental music. So to avoid this new tax, some jazz bands stopped using singers altogether. (29)They started relying on the creativity of the instrumentalist to attract audiences. (28)This was what bebop bands did. Now remember a lot of bands have singers. So the instrumentalists simply played in the background and had occasional solos while the singer sang the melody to songs, but not bebop bands. (27)So the instrumentalists had much more freedom to be creative. So they experimented, playing the music faster and using new irregular sorts of rhythms.

(33)

A.Characteristics of big bands swing music.

B.The development of bebop.

C.The relationship between American music and economy.

D.The differences between bebop music and swing music.
